Business Analyst, Lucas Systems
Chandru Palaniyandi, Business Analyst at Lucas Systems, talks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?
Day to day, I’m involved in creating software solutions that help warehouse operations run more smoothly and efficiently. A good part of my time is spent speaking with customers to get to the heart of their challenges, then turning that insight into solutions that boost productivity, accuracy, and the way people work on the warehouse floor. My background as a software engineer means I can bridge the gap between business needs and technical detail, working closely with developers and producing clear, practical requirements. I’ve partnered with companies across healthcare, retail, grocery, and apparel, helping them respond to changing demands and make the very best use of their warehouse resources.
How would you explain the Lucas Systems Culture?
I’d say the Lucas culture is all about teamwork, innovation, and making a real difference for our customers. We’re a group of driven people with a shared goal of making warehouse work easier, faster, and better for the people on the floor. We see ourselves as part of our customers’ operations, so their success is our success. That means delivering solutions that address their unique needs and processes, building trust, and being there when they need us. At the heart of it, we use technology to simplify the complexities of logistics and help warehouses stay more dynamic, meaning flexible, efficient, and ready for what’s next.
How does this culture assist your clients’ requirements?
Our culture has a direct influence on how we work with our customers. We see ourselves as part of their team, so every project begins with taking the time to really understand their operations, pain points, and objectives – not just the technical specifications, but how things actually work, day to day. From there, we tailor solutions that bring together process improvements with innovative, AI-powered workflows. It’s never simply about delivering software; it’s about achieving tangible gains in productivity, accuracy, and agility, while making life easier for warehouse managers and those on the front line. It’s this approach that’s enabled us to help transform operations for hundreds of companies since 1998.
What makes Lucas Systems unique in your industry?
What really sets Lucas apart is that we’ve been pushing the boundaries in warehouse technology long before many of today’s buzzwords were even on the scene. We were the first to bring voice recognition into logistics, the first to introduce Android wearables into the warehouse, and we were working on AI-driven optimisation well before “AI” became the talk of the supply chain. Our Jennifer™ software isn’t just a voice, she’s the brains and the optimisation engine behind our customers’ operations. She evaluates orders, priorities, locations, and travel paths in real time, giving workers the most efficient tasks exactly when they need them. That results in warehouses that are quicker, smarter, and ready to adapt to whatever comes their way.
What solutions do you offer customers?
At Lucas, we help warehouses run smarter, faster, and with less strain on both people and resources. Our solutions use AI and real-time data to make decisions such as guiding workers along the most efficient pick paths, determining the best order of tasks, and even recommending better ways to slot products or build pallets. Whether it’s streamlining workflows, improving accuracy, or cutting out unnecessary steps, our aim is to create technology that feels like a trusted teammate on the warehouse floor that can help you adapt instantly when priorities shift or demand changes.
What new services/solutions are you offering?
In recent months, Lucas Systems has rolled out a range of ‘dynamically-driven’ technologies designed to help warehouse operators adapt quickly to changing conditions or sudden shifts in demand. One example is Dynamic Slotting, which removes the guesswork from re-slotting by providing AI-powered, real-time recommendations to keep things running smoothly as circumstances evolve. Then there’s our next-generation Dynamic Work Optimisation, now enhanced with new algorithms and digital twin mapping, which can cut worker travel by up to 50% while considering real-world factors like order priority and warehouse layout. And our latest addition, Dynamic Pallet Builder, enables workers to build stronger, more efficient pallets by analysing thousands of variables, from size, weight, and stacking rules to safety and shipping regulations in seconds, so every pallet is spot on the first time.
How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?
There’s always plenty of talk about “futureproofing” your warehouse and distribution operations. But can you really do that? The pandemic and its lingering impact proved that you can’t always see what’s coming. So perhaps futureproofing is a bit of a myth, or at the very least, something we need to rethink.
At Lucas, we believe it’s less about “futureproofing” and more about your ability to handle whatever the future throws at you quickly, cost-effectively, and with minimal disruption as the supply chain, market conditions, and customer expectations shift. We focus on flexible automation that can be easily adapted to meet changing demands: software solutions you can drop in and configure to work alongside your existing systems and processes, helping you perform better wherever you are on your supply chain maturity journey. That also means giving your workforce the right tools to ease stress, boost speed and accuracy, and improve engagement and retention.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the coming year for Lucas Systems?
AI and automation are front and centre right now, and many companies are trying to figure out where these technologies make the most sense in their operations. Some businesses are already highly advanced in their automation journey, while others are still in the early stages. The key is ensuring that automation works with people and not against them. It should enhance and empower the workforce. That’s why our software can adapt to different user profiles, offering the right level of checks and guidance based on experience. Our solutions connect seamlessly with any WMS or automation system, integrating quickly without requiring changes or causing operational disruption.
