Jarno Honkanen, VP Solutions & Technology at Cimcorp Group speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.

What are your best-known solutions and services?

Our gantry-based robotic systems deliver automated picking, storage and retrieval. Our Dreamfield platform is a modular and scalable automation solution designed for grocery retail, dairy, bakery and beverage distribution centres, enabling rapid and accurate order fulfilment. We are also renowned for Dream Factory, our end-to-end automation solution for tyre manufacturing that manages every stage from raw material handling to finished tyre storage. Through our Success Services, we provide comprehensive lifecycle support, including after-sales service, system upgrades and expert training to maximise uptime and customer satisfaction.

Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?

We primarily serve the grocery retail and tyre manufacturing sectors, but our solutions are also used in food and beverage, e-commerce and fast-moving consumer goods. North America and Europe are currently our fastest-growing regions in grocery retail, and we have also recently expanded into Australia.

What are your most recent innovations?

We recently launched the Dreamfield solution to automate warehouses and distribution centres, integrating robotics, automated guided vehicles and advanced software for seamless operations.

On the service side, our CVision AR-Glasses provide augmented reality support for real-time remote assistance and maintenance.

We have also entered the electric vehicle battery automation sector, offering end-to-end material handling for gigafactories by leveraging our expertise in robotics and intralogistics.

What are the major trends and developments affecting your customers, and how are you responding?

Labour shortages and the need for resilient supply chains are accelerating the adoption of automation across all sectors. Rising consumer expectations for rapid and accurate deliveries are shaping the market, as is the integration of new technologies such as autonomous mobile robots, artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics. We respond to these trends through continuous innovation, modular solutions and close collaboration with our customers to future-proof their operations.

Can you tell us about any recent contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

We have implemented a fully automated order picking system for Mercadona in Spain, which has halved delivery times for fresh produce and ensured optimum freshness. For Edeka in Germany, our automation has reduced order-to-shelf time to 4-5 hours, improving both product quality and employee safety.

Alimerka in Spain, meanwhile, benefited from a modernised distribution centre that boosted productivity, safety and sustainability. In Germany, REWE addressed labour shortages and improved delivery accuracy with our automation.

What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?

We anticipate continued and controlled growth. Our strategy includes developing core solutions and serving our global customer base with our modular solutions, globally local service teams and our strong software know-how. We invest in continuous learning, mentoring and upskilling to foster innovation and operational excellence.

What’s the latest news from your company?

We recently celebrated 15 years of Dream Factory as a leading tyre automation solution, but what really sets this year apart is that we are celebrating our 50-year anniversary as a company. The launch of Dreamfield last autumn has set a new standard for modular grocery automation and in January this year Veli-Matti Hakala was appointed as our CEO.

Can you tell us about any areas where you’re currently making technical advances e.g. safety, sustainability and environment?

We are committed to reducing environmental impact, waste and energy use. We have achieved the highest occupational safety classification in Finland, the Vision Zero Forum Award, for our proactive risk management and zero-accident goal.

Are you taking part in any major trade shows this year?

After successful participation in LogiMAT and ProMat this year, we’ll be showcasing our next-generation, scalable solutions at IMHX in Birmingham from 9 to 11 September. We will also be exhibiting at GPS (tyre sector) and IBIE (bakery sector) in the US.
