Spacemaker’s journey from a Florida-based innovator to a transatlantic automation leader has culminated in the launch of its UK Innovation Centre, an advanced facility designed to bring next-generation shuttle systems to life for European logistics operators. Located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, the Innovation Centre is a fully operational demonstration site featuring Spacemaker’s flagship systems, the DualAxis Pro® and QuadAxis Pro®. These semi-automated pallet shuttles are purpose-built for high-density storage environments where throughput, safety, and space optimisation are critical.
Guidance Automation, a pioneer in autonomous solutions, has launched a groundbreaking model that makes automation more accessible than ever. Automation by the Hour – ‘Autonomous GO’ allows manufacturers and logistics providers to deploy autonomous vehicles without capital investment. Businesses only pay for the hours worked, aligning cost directly with output.
PC Electric, an Austrian manufacturer of industrial plugs and sockets is reaping the benefits of an automated mobile robot (AMR) solution from KNAPP. The company opted for an Open Shuttle solution from KNAPP, comprising two AMRs and two stations, one for collecting the empty containers from the dispatch area and one for depositing them in the production hall. The AMRs feature a special load-handling device to stabilise the stacks of containers, which can be up to 1.6 metres tall.
TGW Logistics, one of the world’s leading providers of highly automated intralogistics solutions, relies on JAGGAER’s software solutions for its source-to-pay activity, originally with the aim of increasing the level of automation and boosting operational efficiency. Today, however, TGW Logistics is also benefiting from significant cost savings: in 2023 alone, process costs were reduced by around 2.4 million euros. TGW Logistics decided to introduce JAGGAER One back in 2016, as the company’s growth had led to new challenges in global purchasing.
To cope with the strains of tariffs, onshoring, and a host of other external factors, companies like Amazon are investing huge amounts in automation and robotics. According to McKinsey & Company, applying AI-driven forecasting can reduce supply chain errors by 20-50%, underscoring the potential of adaptive systems to improve responsiveness and accuracy. Beyond efficiency gains, automation shifts employees into supervisory and innovation focused roles, says Andrei Danescu, CEO and Co-Founder, Dexory.
Modular automation is redefining how businesses approach system design. Unlike traditional automation systems that demand costly system upgrades for any modifications, modular solutions offer a flexible, scalable and cost-effective way to optimise material flow and adapt to changing needs. Systems are designed as independent yet compatible units that can be easily reconfigured, expanded or adapted to evolving needs, according to Cimcorp.
As the industry faces labour shortages, automation and robotics is becoming increasingly important in maintaining the volume of business that goes through warehouses.
