In demonstrating its continuous commitment to raising standards and recognising outstanding achievement in the automated gate and barrier sector, Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced that it will be sponsoring the ‘Gate & Barrier Contractor of the Year’ award at the 2025 Association of Fencing Industries’ (AFI) UK Fencing Award. This marks the third consecutive year that it has sponsored this award. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 13th November at Mercedes-Benz World, and as a sponsor, DHF’s Steve Hill will be a representative on the judging panel, playing an integral role in evaluating entries and selecting both finalists and the overall category winner.

The TurboLux range from Hörmann UK represents a new generation of high-speed spiral doors engineered to meet the demanding needs of modern logistics and warehousing facilities. Purpose-built for high-traffic environments, TurboLux doors deliver industry-leading performance, combined with record-breaking speeds, maximum transparency, and long-term operational durability. Recently verified by the Record Institute of Germany (RID), the doors achieve exceptional opening speeds of up to 4 metres per second, with a closing speed of 1 metre per second – setting a new standard in the sector.

In the UK, commercial overhead doors are subject to specific regulations, particularly under the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines. These regulations outline key safety requirements, including proper installation, regular maintenance, and safety features that must be incorporated into the doors. For example, commercial overhead doors must be equipped with safety mechanisms such as sensors to prevent accidental closure, emergency stop features, and manual overrides in case of power failure, according to BID Group.

Stertil’s Flexiedge high-speed doors include a soft edge design with a PVC curtain free of rigid elements and photo sensors to detect obstacles and halt operation. Flexiedge has a self-reinserting curtain that automatically resets into side guides after impact. Its tight door seals to minimise environmental hazards like draughts, dust, and contaminants.

EFAFLEX supplied a SST-260 for a client in Swindon as the perfect solution to replace the slower, less insulated, less secure, roller shutter to help secure and improve their facility. The EFA-SST is a high-speed spiral door that represents a new generation of industrial doors, delivering on all fronts; insulation, energy-saving, functionality, and state of the art technology. It is ideal as an exterior door, that requires fast opening and closing speeds (2.5m/s and 1.0m/s respectively), and capable of up to 250,000 operating cycles per year.

It’s excellent to see the diverse range of doors being supplied, bringing both safety and speed to warehouse and logistics operations.
