There’s little doubt that the order-picking challenges faced by logistics operators today have given rise to the uptake of goods-to-person (G-2-P) robotics, with a significant and positive impact. From a shortage of labour and high cost of recruitment, to managing inventory to cope with peak demand whilst optimising valuable warehouse space, G-2-P robot systems offer a smart, cost-effective, and efficient solution to meet these industry challenges head-on.
As a leading systems integrator with 30 years of automation and robotics experience, L-A-C Logistics Automation is proud to offer the latest in advanced robotic technologies designed to streamline goods-to-person operations across a wide range of industry sectors including e-commerce, retail, food & beverage, and pharmaceuticals.
Three types of robotics are combined to create a picking powerhouse, each designed to handle diverse tasks for small, medium, and large items. Tall picking robots enable high-density storage and retrieval of goods up to a height of 12m, working in tandem with mini autonomous mobile robots which are deployed to ensure quick and accurate tote delivery to and from the workstations. For larger-sized items, the pallet and shelf robots independently move pallets and shelving units from the storage areas to the workstations, creating a complete automated solution for order picking, storage, and replenishment tasks.
With warehouse space at a premium, the system combines tote, pallet, and shelf storage in one location, positioning totes higher up in the racking structure, with pallets and shelving units below, eliminating the need for separate storage areas. Space is further optimised by the hybrid workstations which provide a centralised point for operators to pick any sized item, as the robots bring totes, pallets, and shelves directly to the picker, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and throughput.
This intelligent robotics system offers all the agility needed to handle dynamic goods-to-person operations. With a flexible, modular design, the layout can be changed quickly, adding more workstations, storage areas, and robots as required to meet short and long-term needs. Operational efficiency is built on continuous improvement, and the system provides extensive data capture on inventory location, pick frequency, and routing to ensure these are continuously modified and improved to optimise the flow of goods. The data also provides vital analytics for strategic decision-making using integrated AI.
Combining shorter lead times over traditional ASRS, flexible designs with easy deployment alongside a favourable ROI, this fully autonomous G-2-P robotics system offers a host of impressive benefits that deliver swift and tangible results for long-term success.
