The Whittan Group, the leading UK manufacturer of storage solutions, has been working hard to continually develop its products and services to ensure it is always adapting to an ever-changing market. Recently, the trend in UK warehousing indicates a move towards more businesses needing to store their stock higher and heavier.

As a result, Link51, a trusted Whittan brand, knew it needed to accommodate this necessity for its customers. Consequently, it has made some substantial investments in its Milton Keynes factory to extend its Link51 product offering, allowing more flexibility and choice to its customers.
As expanding capabilities with storage is at the heart of the company, Link51 is dedicated to constantly exploring new and innovative ways to provide an array of solutions for its customers. The investment in the factory has increased their ability to go higher with the racking, store heavier goods and add more efficiencies to create a cost-effective solution, all whilst manufacturing it here in the UK.
They’ve already seen great success for one of their customers, John K. Philips, a leading UK transportation company. They were looking for the right solution when relocating to a new warehouse in which they could create a more environmentally friendly facility.
The key objective for the move was to almost double the storage capacity of the warehouse, from 10,000 to over 19,000 pallet spaces, whilst also ensuring a smooth transition with minimal downtime.
As Link51 has over 70 years of experience in providing bespoke storage solutions, they’re experts in understanding exactly what the customer needs, carefully designing the correct solution that appropriately caters for specific requirements and seamlessly installing the product.
When working with John K. Philips, Link51 listened to what they needed and adapted plans when desired changes were flagged. The two companies worked together to address any challenges by adopting a flexible and adaptive approach.
This included the continual adjustment of the configuration of the racking design throughout the project, meaning that they could alter and fine-tune the product as they worked, modifying beam heights and aisle widths to accommodate a range of different product sizes and optimising the space for even more efficiency.
The Whittan Group are also proud to have been awarded EcoVadis Gold Sustainability Rating, so it was happy to support John K. Philips’s goal to build a carbon-neutral facility. The collaboration between the companies met the immediate challenges and set up the company for long-term success by providing a bespoke, scalable and efficient warehouse solution.
Despite the tight deadlines, the new racking system was installed in time for the scheduled move, enabling the business to start operations in its new facility with minimal disruption.
John Philips, CEO of John K. Philips, commented, “Link51’s flexible approach was key to the success of this project. Their ability to adapt to our changing requirements and integrate existing materials with new racking solutions allowed us to achieve our storage goals within budget and on time. The new facility is a significant step forward for our business, providing us with the capacity and operational efficiency we need to support our growth for years to come.”
Stewart Adams, a Sales Director at Whittan, said, “We were delighted to collaborate with John K. Phillips to deliver this project. The key to any successful installation is to fully understand the client’s current and future operational needs and then work with them to develop a solution that meets that challenge. The ongoing collaboration between our delivery team and the JKP team throughout the build was crucial in delivering this prestigious storage solution to schedule and with minimal effect on the existing operation.”
