What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

It’s being involved in the full process, from the initial specification right through to the finished installation and I’m lucky in that I get to see all types of production facilities. Each day can be a bit like an episode of ‘Inside the Factory’ but without Greg Wallace – my personal favourite has got to be Warburtons crumpet factory!

Who has inspired you most in your career?

That’s easy – my mum. I like to think I got my work ethic from her; she has always been a grafter. I can remember her working 12-hour shifts in a factory and still doing as much overtime as possible. Not something I could do.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

Racking – because of my strong-minded nature.

If you had your time again, what would you do different?

Change football teams – Everton FC will be the death of me!!! Seriously I wouldn’t change anything, I’m a great believer in everything happens for a reason – good or bad.

What’s your favourite pastime?

As a single figure handicap golfer, I like to play a couple of rounds a week. I also go to the gym and have just completed a 17 week ‘shred’, quite possibly the hardest thing I’ve done but worth it.

Do you follow a sport or support a team?

Golf and football are my sports of choice, and I’ve also taken up squash again having not played since school.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened in your career?

It’s been mentioned that my choice of trousers can at times seem a little snug, which could be a contributing factor to a couple of wardrobe malfunctions whilst on site!

Do you have any hidden talents?

Not so hidden – if I’m good at something I am the type of person who will let others know. It’s been 20 years, but I reckon it’s got to be knitting which I learnt whilst staying at my grandma’s on Saturday nights with my cousins. Our time was spent performing shows, circling items in the Argos catalogue and knitting. As the only male in the family, I was still the best knitter.

Who would be your favourite party guest?

Will Ferrell – who I am sure would have us all in stitches, or David Goggins – the guy isn’t human.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

Family time, but I suppose waking up every morning has to be the biggest luxury for us all really.

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Share it – I’ve got a pretty big family so I am sure we would make light work of it.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My daughter Miss Millie Mills – 6 going on 16.

What’s your favourite music album?

I listen to most things, but at the moment my ‘most played’ on Spotify is Motown’s Greatest Hits.

What’s your favourite movie or Netflix series?

Stepbrothers, but anything with Will Ferrell. Favourite series has to be Game of Thrones – we even had a little trip to Dubrovnik to check out some of the filming locations.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

To be honest I’ve yet to meet anyone whose intended career path was Industrial docks and doors, you just tend to fall into it like I did. My advice would be something simple like ‘always do what you say you are going to do’.
