Chris Hopkirk, has launched a brand-new business venture, “The Business of Mindfulness Ltd”, which focuses on mindfulness and building mental resilience in the workplace.

Chris is well known in the Warehouse & Logistics industry having worked in it since 1988 when he started his career with Dexion selling pallet storage solutions such as racking and shelving. He continued his career with companies such as Apex Linvar, SSI Schaefer and Link51 and then joined labelling and integrated safety specialists ASG Services in 2008 as Sales Director. He helped his good friend and director Tony Gresty grow the business and recently was heavily involved in the restructuring of the company, enabling it to move towards solar energy solutions through ASG Energy.

Due to his own experiences with stress and anxiety he has in the last 5 years, developed a real passion for mental health and wellbeing and studied mindfulness, becoming an accredited teacher two years ago.

Chris says: “I was introduced to mindfulness through an app called “Headspace”. I gradually started to understand more and more before I joined an organisation called Breathworks, who trained me to become an accredited teacher.

From my own knowledge and experience, I know what it is to work in a stressful job and when you combine it with recessions, Brexit, the pandemic and so on, stress can really trigger your emotions. Life isn’t getting any easier, we are all experiencing more and more stress and anxiety at home and at work.

By using mindfulness techniques, I became aware of my own behaviour and reactions during these trying times and having helped myself, I realised other people and organisations would really benefit from learning these techniques.

Soon after this lightbulb moment, The Business of Mindfulness was born!

It has become my passion, to help people in business – owners, managers, and employees – deal with stress at work and at home and in doing so, help employees to become happier, able to function well and contribute positively, while employers reduce costly absenteeism and improve productivity.

Unfortunately, the Warehouse and Logistics industry has the second highest absenteeism rate due to stress and mental health issues in the UK. I’m excited to give something back to the industry I have worked in for over 35 years.

In addition to teaching mindfulness techniques, Chris also offers Mental Health First Aid training, so employers and employees become aware, of what to look out for in their colleagues.
