The responsibility for workers lives can’t fall off the radar – not in warehousing. The UK Material Handling Association discusses how the sector can operate Safe Sites.
When a site isn’t safe, accidents happen. A driver was struck by a forklift truck while waiting for his trailer to be loaded at a soft drinks company in 2020. He suffered serious head injuries and later died. In 2019 a worker at a freight forwarders in Colchester broke his back when he fell from a forklift truck. Accidents happen when safety standards are not adhered to.
This is why safety will remain at the top of the UK Material Handling Association’s (UKMHA) agenda. The UKMHA invites health and safety professionals from the UK warehousing sector to join them on National Forklift Safety Day – 13 June – for the latest safety advice.
As with previous years, National Forklift Safety Day 2023 is intended to convey an important safety message on the UK material handling industry. The theme for this year’s campaign is a ‘Safe Site Saves Lives’.
Attend a Safety Course
Held at NWSLC, the UKMHA’s forklift engineer courses are delivered by highly trained professionals and offer opportunities to work with a wide range of materials handling equipment.
Safety for Service Engineers is one of the courses available to attend. This important course explores a variety of health and safety issues in the fork truck working environment. Whilst essential for service engineers, it is a valuable source of information and understanding for anyone who works near fork lift trucks or is responsible for Safe Sites.
Download our Safety Alerts
All Safety Alerts are published on the UKMHA website and have been created by the UKMHA Health & Safety Group to highlight hazards and safe working practices for technicians working on material handling equipment.
The latest alert – LPG Cold Starting – addresses recent reports by users of LPG powered trucks who are experiencing issues with the start-up process.
The alerts are freely available to members and non-members alike. This latest Safety Alert is available to download now from the UKMHA website.
