SEMA, the Storage Equipment Manufacturer’s Association, has opened the doors to their new training facilities in Burntwood. The dedicated centre of excellence will include not only the opportunity for classroom-based learning but also the chance to build and work with racking in a practical environment.
For over 50 years SEMA has been committed to promoting the safe design, installation and use of storage equipment and training forms an integral part towards operating a safe warehouse.
Starting from 12th April 2021 the following courses will be available:
SEIRS Training
SEIRS training is unique in that it is the only national programme for installers which fully addresses the needs of the industry. From erecting a structure through to working safely at height, utilisation of appropriate site plant to supervising and managing teams, the SEIRS courses build into a complete training programme based on the SEMA installation guidelines and SEMA Codes of Practice.
Rack Safety Awareness
SEMA’s Rack Safety Awareness course is aimed at the end user and provides advice and guidance on how to safely work with racking systems and how to implement and conduct routine and regular rack inspections in accordance with SEMA guidelines.
SARI Inspections
This is a professional qualification for personnel whose responsibilities include the regular inspection of storage equipment according to SEMA standards. The SARI qualification comprises an intensive three-day training course and the successful completion of both a written examination and practical assessment.
SEMA Chairman Jaap Vos: “The national and local lockdowns over the past year have seen a substantial boost in online shopping and this has resulted in a huge demand for warehousing solutions. Getting it correct with racking systems is an essential step towards the health and safety of your workforce which is why training is so important. At the new centre we offer training courses that cover almost every aspect of the warehouse from the safe installation of the system, the day-to-day monitoring all the way through to the all-important annual inspection.”
Following Government COVID guidance SEMA has introduced a raft of measures for the safety of attendees and will only run a reduce timetable initially aiming to run a full programme after 21st June 2021.
