The loading bay is the most fast-paced area of the warehouse, a constant hive of activity. But the loading bay also presents more risks than any other part of the warehouse, it may be argued. Although employers have always had the responsibility of reducing risk in the workplace, there is now a greater drive than ever to improve health and safety. This is due to Covid-19 increasing the volume of e-commerce which has resulted in warehouses investing in additional resources to meet demand. At the same time, they have had to re-evaluate strategies across supply chains, including the loading bay.

Well done to BID Group, who were called in when a major UK supermarket faced significant loading bay issues, namely water ingress and temperature control in the chilled food warehouse. Engineers formulated a solution and the customer awarded a contract to BID Group to remove the existing dock shelters and supply and install 99 new dock shelters. Compatible with both single and double deck trailers, the new shelters were fitted complete with extended projection to form a seal past the dynamic fins on the top of the vehicle trailers and top airbags to create a good seal against water ingression and temperature loss.
Congratulations also to Hörmann UK, whose portfolio of loading solutions were selected by St. Modwen Industrial and Logistics for its flagship Tamworth site. Hörmann UK was chosen to supply and install its market leading loading bay solutions, including single and double deck shelters, to ensure the site adequately fulfils the ever-changing needs of prospective clients. Its innovative level access doors, loading bay doors, dock bumpers, LED traffic lights and LED dock lights were also selected to provide a complete and complementary offering.
CopriSystems’ flexible loading bay solutions have never been more relevant in this booming ecommerce environment and the firm recently completed a project for The Dash Group who offer a range of logistics solutions locally across the South West. Rather than renting or building conventional permanent space, a temporary, bespoke distribution loading bay, measuring 25m wide x 7m long x 4.8m internal height, was considered the best, most cost-effective solution, enabling them to make critical changes quickly without compromising day-to-day business. The rapid design and build process, which is customary for all CopriSystems’ structures, means that canopies can usually be installed and fully operational within eight weeks of ordering.
