In 2019, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) will celebrate its centenary. The Institute will celebrate its birthday by commemorating the last 100 years and creating the future of our Institute and the profession.

Kevin Richardson
Chief Executive, CILT

Over the last 12 months, CILT has continued to build relationships with and work alongside the Department for Transport (DfT) and other government bodies to deliver impartial advice and offer solutions to the opportunities that will arise from Brexit. CILT has been engaged in external discussions with various Government sectors, including the DfT, DExEU, the Treasury, HMRC and the Border Force Co-ordination Group. The Institute’s Public Policy Committee has hosted roundtable discussions with government officials and operators to ensure the profession is prepared for Brexit.

Elsewhere, in order to add value to its membership proposition, CILT has launched ADVANTAGE, an exclusive member products and benefits package that will provide its members with access to discounts on selected Apple products, travel insurance, tax return services, airport parking, gym membership, foreign exchange services, leisure activities and much more. This package has been designed to help members in both their home and professional lives both financially and personally.

Following on from last year’s (2017) successful restructure and strategy launch, CILT has announced its new values for staff, members and corporate members. The objective is to define the way we think, work and act at CILT to ensure we deliver our promise of providing an Institute that is essential to its members, inspires its audiences and delivers experiences that are loved, for life. Our values: CILT is confident. CILT is inspirational. CILT is the home of learning and CILT is built on teamwork.

Earlier this year, CILT incorporated the successful Women in Logistics UK organisation into the Institute to deliver a ground-breaking new forum that promotes diversity and inclusion within the profession. The Women in Logistics Forum provides opportunities for the logistics and transport profession, and other key stakeholders, to support women working in the sector and identify and address the challenges to recruitment and retention.

2019 will be a milestone year for the Institute and the profession as a whole. We will enter a turbulent and uncertain era and it is our profession that is expected to keep the arteries of the country flowing, during what is bound to be an interesting transition. CILT will be on hand to support the sectors that it represents throughout Brexit and beyond.
