In 2013 they processed 100 tonnes of cardboard per month. In 2015 with the Durapac CB65X baler they can now process 1000 tonnes per month!

Medway-DrumsWith the CB65X semi-automatic Durapac baler, Medway Drums can now process 2 tonne of cardboard per hour, fork-lift feeding, instead of baling 2 tonne of cardboard all day. This allows them to spend more time looking for more business. More tonnage, more profit and a very happy customer!

‘When starting out our recycling division at Medway Drums Ltd we needed an honest and customer focused company to advise on the equipment we needed, which Compact and Bale have always fulfilled.’ George French, Managing Director at Medway Drums.

After conducting an initial site review, Compact and Bale advised Medway Drums on a range of waste equipment for processing cardboard and plastic. After initially supplying them with a MacFab550 vertical baler it soon became clear that Medway Drums needed a more automated process as a result of the vast amount of tonnage being collected from sites across the UK. As a smaller baler, the machine required more man hours for less output so the CB65X semi-automatic baler was the perfect solution and in George’s words ‘the machine is an animal!’

‘Compact and Bale were approachable, knowledgeable and understanding to our initial expansion needs and advised us on all models throughout their entire baler range and we now have two balers on site that will last for years processing over 1000 tonnes of cardboard and plastic per month. If it wasn’t for the quality of equipment we wouldn’t have been able to grow so quickly. The equipment and service from Compact and Bale really is second to none. They are always available no matter what time of day if we need something, whether it be baling consumables, servicing or just equipment info or advice,’ says George.

As well as cardboard, Medway Drums had no means of disposing of their plastics efficiently. Due to the volume and nature of material that the recycling facility collects, it was critical that Compact and Bale could supply a robust and heavy duty baler for these materials.

The BalePress 18 from Strautmann’s ‘Automate to Save’ range was selected enabling Medway Drums to generate further revenue from their waste materials and systemise their waste management processes for plastics as well as cardboard. Cheaper machines produce less desirable bale weights which result in inefficient loads, which could mean disaster for a haulier.
