Air rotation heating, a technology developed by Powrmatic Inc. in the USA some 40 years ago is now proving increasingly popular in the UK and the rest of Europe. Its purpose is to provide high efficiency heating with excellent temperature control for warehousing and other large spaces.

Powrmatic-TE-at-Senator-1Phil Brompton, Managing Director of Powrmatic Ltd, explained: “Our US sister company developed air rotation heating to address some of the key challenges posed by certain types of warehousing and other large indoor spaces. As such, it is particularly suitable where high density racking is in use as its operation maintains even temperatures throughout the space. It also provides considerable flexibility for spaces where the layout of racking changes on a regular basis.”

Powrmatic’s TE gas and oil fired free-standing air rotation heaters use high efficiency axial fans which move large volumes of air through the space at relatively low temperatures. Crucially, their ability to maintain set-point temperature is not affected by how the space is configured. As a result, building operators can alter the layout of the space without needing to re-position ductwork.

Typically, the air within the space is recycled through the heater every 30 minutes and the low temperatures maximise the potential for high efficiencies through condensing.

TE heaters minimise the effects of stratification so there is no additional expenditure on destratification fans, while the use of a free-standing heater also reduces installation costs.

TE heaters typically range in size from 90kW to 800kW (though other capacities are available) and can be sited internally or externally, using natural gas, LPG or oil burners.

Current users of Powrmatic TE heaters include Topps Tiles, Sports Direct, Weetabix, Tesco Distribution Centres and Wilkinsons.
