Heating and ventilation specialists, AmbiRad Ltd have successfully completed a prestigious project at the extension of a brand new distribution centre for one of Britain’s leading outdoor clothing and footwear brands, The Regatta Group.

The 640,000 sq ft distribution centre in Ellesmere Port was opened earlier this year by adventurer, Bear Grylls, and features over five miles worth of racking and holds more than £36m worth of stock. The centre, named Pioneer Port, houses one of the highest manually picked racking units in the whole of Europe at 15.6m.
The project required provision of a frost protection system for the warehouse ensuring a steady regulated temperature of between -5°C and 15°C in order to protect the items of clothing and a heating system to keep employees warm.
AmbiRad were able to provide a combined solution with a Nordair Niche Air Rotation unit and 15 AmbiRad radiant tube burners to meet the clients’ requirements and worked closely with Thermatic to install the new system. The Salford based Installers carried out the full specialist installation and commissioning of both Air Rotation systems and the high efficiency radiant tube heaters at high level.
Paul Fox, Sales Manager for AmbiRad said “The combination of the Air Rotation unit and radiant tube heating system was the ideal solution for this project because, the Air Rotation unit automatically controls to protect against frost that can penetrate the building and damage the product in very cold weather preventing frost damage to the goods. The heaters operate on an air rotation principle – the heater draws in cooler air at floor level and discharges it at high level across the building, producing an effective mix with the warmed air and forcing it down to lower levels. The radiant heating system warms up rapidly but does not waste energy heating the volume of air in the building. Employees in the building feel warm and comfortable temperatures are maintained with warmth being distributed evenly yet very little fuel is consumed, ensuring the system remains economical. Suspended from the roof, the radiant heaters emit infra-red rays that warm only objects and people in their path.”
The result is a gentle airflow pattern, displacing high level hot air and returning it to floor level to provide automatic temperature destratification. Heat is distributed evenly, both horizontally and vertically, without the need for costly duct work of high-level fans.
