Effective storage solutions can improve manufacturing efficiencies to sustain growth in the UK car industry, says Jim Hardisty, Managing Director of Goplasticboxes.com.

This statement comes as latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal a 13th successive month of UK car sales growth in March this year. New car registrations increased almost 6% to 394,806 in March – defying the EU trend which remains downwards.

Although these figures are encouraging, registrations still remain 12.1% below the 2007 pre-financial crisis market total, which highlights there is potential for greater growth if further efficiencies are made.

Jim says: “Highly sophisticated manufacturing environments, like in the automotive industry, benefit from tailor-made systems that are specially designed to complement the production process and minimise delays on the production line.

“In 2011, we launched our standardised range of KLT storage containers which were designed to satisfy the high demands imposed by automated handling systems. They were developed specifically with car manufacturers in mind, for the storage and distribution of car parts and therefore conform to Europe’s VDA standards for the automotive industry.

“In the last two years we’ve had considerable interest in our KLT containers from the top five car manufacturers but believe that the UK automotive industry as a whole could benefit from our competitive pricing and high quality customer service.”

The KLT range is a modular family of containers, available in five different footprints and with three different lids. All the containers have been designed with base ribbing and stacking feet so they can be stacked securely on either a 1200x1000mm UK standard pallet or a 1200x800mm Euro pallet.

Grooves and slots on the sides of the containers support gripping and lifting technology in automated systems and ergonomic handles help operatives moving the containers manually. Smooth internal walls optimise storage volume and built-in label holders allow manufacturers to number or code the containers for easy identification and retrieval during production.

Manufactured in polypropylene (PP) as standard, the KLT containers offer superior strength and rigidity for long term use. For large orders they are also available in carbon conductive material (ESD), different colours or with printing options.
