Chester and Wrexham based distributor, Edge Transport is proud to have been involved with the fabulous Balloons for Anya launch in Chester. 3,000 balloons full of hope were released on mass at 1.45pm on Saturday 27th April 2013 to signal the start of a balloon race. The event has raised over £5,200 for the Anya Bentham Appeal.
Anya Bentham is a two year old girl from Christleton, Chester who is fighting an aggressive childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. Already on her third round of chemotherapy, her best chance of success lies abroad as the treatment she needs to fight this nasty cancer is not available in the UK. Her appeal, supported by the Neuroblastoma Alliance UK, needs to raise £250,000 to cover the next stage of treatment in the US as the NHS will not provide any funding.
The emotional and awe inspiring launch was made even more poignant as Anya and her family were there to watch the balloon release. Anya’s smile was wide, amazing when you consider that she is mid way through chemotherapy treatment.
Nikki Edge, one of the event organisers said “To see the balloons rise up into the sky was incredible and brought tears to my eyes, along with many of the volunteers and spectators. This little girl deserves to grow up happy and healthy. If everyone who finds out about the Appeal just gave £1 then we could reach the target and make sure that Anya gets the treatment she needs.”
Along with Gap Personnel, Edge Transport was a proud sponsor of the event and promoted to its extensive customer base and member companies across the Palletline network.
Alison Moy, Chief Executive of the Neuroblastoma Alliance UK, the charity which is helping Anya’s family fundraise for treatment, said “We’re so grateful to Edge Transport for supporting Anya’s appeal. This is a fabulous, unique way to raise funds for Anya and raise awareness of neuroblastoma. Sadly, treatment options in the UK are limited for children with this aggressive cancer, which is why families fundraise to join clinical trials abroad, where new treatments are being offered which are showing promise in beating this horrid disease.”
Jenny Edge, Commercial Director of Edge Transport said “As soon as I heard about Anya I knew we had to help in whatever way we can. As well as the balloon release the Edge team have also completed sponsored cycle rides and we will continue to support this cause for as long as it takes.”
