Warehouse & Logistics News – What brought you to this industry?
All concrete floors require maintaining or repairing in some form or other and both directors have years of experience in doing so and therefore it seemed a good idea at the time to offer our services to clients.
WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Meeting new customers with new problems which presents new challenges to us, solving the problems and leaving a good job.
WLN – Who inspired you most in your career?
Father and Grandfather. They were both heavily involved with concrete and so I think it runs in the family.
WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
The final buzzer on a shift which would mean operatives could go home. This would make people happy every day and also leave the floor area empty so that our company could either come in and carry out repairs or clean the floors and joints.
WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
Very tough question as nothing springs to mind. We might not have invested as heavily in some of the equipment we have purchased which doesn’t get used as much as we expected perhaps.
WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?
Embarrassing things happen to me on a frequent basis. I am the embarrassing member of the company and therefore I feel it is a crucial part of my role in order to accidentally amuse staff and customers.

Allan finding his own jokes funnier than anybody elses makes me laugh as they are rarely any good.
Other than that I think people in general are funny as we all have different mannerisms etc.
WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?
If I have I wish somebody would find them for me please. At 41 years of age it would be nice to have at least one please.
An overall interest and knowledge on concrete floor slabs is probably the most accurate answer.

Somebody I could learn something from. Theo Paphitis, Sir Ken Morrison, Maurice Dawson.

WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
Going to the gym during the day. I tend to work variable hours and days and it helps me relax and think straight by going for a blow out whilst colleagues are either on site or in office.
WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?
If I tell you then surely they are not a secret!
or is the answer simply, yes.
Mine are not a secret. We want our company to grow within the concrete repair market and establish a good name with our new and existing customers.

WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?
Being that I have only ever read about 2 books it has to be Alan Shearer’s autobiography as I cannot remember what the other book was. Not a big reader.

Ball sports, rugby, football first and then tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash.
WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
Buy a house with an office for me and two separate TV rooms so I dont have to watch Ben 10 or Coronation Street.
WLN – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
I wouldn’t say, don’t do it, I think it’s great and would welcome them into it as part of my advice.
Focus on what you enjoy and then you will become good at it.
