What do you do if goods in the warehouse not only have to be moved from A to B, but this has to be done as cost effectively, quickly and safely as possible in the tightest of space while taking all safety-relevant environmental factors into account? The Düsseldorf logistics service provider Scheren Logistik GmbH has found a convincing answer when it comes to materials handling technology: They have been using forklifts made by Clark for 32 years.

Clark fleet comprises 26 machines from 1.5 to 5.5 tonnes

The Clark machines have been in operation at Scheren since 1980. The warehousing specialist currently has 26 Clark forklifts with 1.5 to 5.5 tonnes load-bearing capacity in service. Transporting and distributing chemicals, FMCG and hazardous goods. Scheren has over 90,000 pallet storage spaces at three warehouse sites in the south of Düsseldorf. With 200 employees, approx. 120,000 pallets are moved every month. The Clark forklifts and other machines load and unload more than 150 trucks daily for storage and retrieval operations.

Cost factors for round-the-clock applications

The time factor is not only a critical component of success in warehousing. Space too offers saving potentials, Clark compact chassis trucks steer easily in and out among narrow aisle widths. Mr. Dieter Kowalski, Managing Director of Kowalski Transportgeräte GmbH, who as the Clark dealer and Scheren service provider for sales, leasing and service including UVV inspections and spare parts supply, declared, “The compact design of the Clark machines, is perfect for performing the requirements profile on site. And what is more: The exceptionally low fuel consumption of the machines, low repair costs and long service life of the forklifts are also greatly appreciated at Scheren.” After all, work in the warehouses continues day and night.

Secure stability with a clear view of loads and forks

Although Scheren formerly opted for Clark machines with two and three tonne load-bearing capacity, the logistics specialist now has LPG machines with 1.5 to 5.5 tonne load-bearing capacity in service, including the C30C and C32 models from the Gen 2 series from Clark and machines of the CGC series. All Clark compact forklifts fitted with banded cushion tyre forklifts offer extremely good stability, “that means secure stability even at very high lifting heights”, states Kowalski, “another type of tyre would provide less stability while requiring more space.” Keyword high lifting heights: The excellent mast vision makes it easier to stack high racks. The Clark mast damping system also lets drivers treat goods and the forklift gently when working at seven metres height.

Comfort boosts productivity and acceptance

There is good reason why the Clark machines have become an integral part of everyday work routine among countless drivers for over thirty years. This is not only thanks to their long service life, but also the ergonomically designed cab offering the utmost driver comfort, ample space and all operating elements within a convenient range. That helps to work through a strenuous day without getting too tired.

80-Volt four-wheel forklift GEX 40-50 in testing

It is already clear that Clark’s success story at Scheren has a bright future ahead. At present, Scheren is testing the new GEX40-50 with super-elastic tyres. The 80-Volt four-wheel forklift with load-bearing capacities of 4, 4.5 and 5 tonnes represents a logical development of the successful GEX series.

The conceptual design of the GEX, which features two drive motors, 100 percent AC technology and maintenance-free oil-immersed disk brakes, is identical to Clark’s industry-proven three and four-wheel models in the 48 and 80 Volt segment. It is also regarded as a guarantee for tremendous performance, optimum manoeuvrability and secure load handling.
