What brought you to this industry?
Chance! Once identified as someone who understood the “black art” of pallet control requests for help kept coming in.
What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Meeting the people who have to deal with the operational reality of controlling multiple platform assets and finding a solution that fits in with their working day that also gives cost effective management.
Who inspired you most in your career?
My kids – starting my own business meant that I could adapt my working day to spend time with them and earn money at the same time.
If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
An all in one spanner! I work in so many areas in the supply chain and warehouse and need so many different skills I never know which one I will need during the day.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
I’m not sure that I would change anything, I have enjoyed building up the business and have worked and am working with some great people and companies.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?
Turning up for an important meeting still wearing my slippers!
Who or what makes you laugh?
Office banter – probably enough said.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Yet to be discovered.
Who would be your favourite party guest?
Jasper Carrott or Dave Allen – telling stories about “real life” situations keeping everyone in stitches.
What is the greatest luxury in your life?
My car – as a child I used to look longinly at a Mercedes SLK in the car showroom window. I finally bought one for myself two years ago.
What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
Eating warmed up left over curry in the morning!
Do you have any secret ambitions?
Do a cross country course on horseback – and stay on until the end.
What’s your dream holiday destination?
Somewhere in the far east on a unspoilt beach with with a luxurious bedroom and bathroom.
What are your three favourite movies of all time?
Die Hard (Bruce Willis and his vest), Pride and Prejudice and Notting Hill.
What is your favourite book of all time?
Not sure I have one – there are so many I’ve enjoyed and re-visited. My favourite childhood memory is still the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton.
What’s your favourite pastime?
Very boring really, going for a walk in the countryside on a spring day.
If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
Spend it! Help the family out, buy a farm in the countryside and potter around.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
To spend time to work with and learn from everyone in the supply chain, from the guy on the back door to understanding the challenges management face – everyone has so much to offer.
