Dexion-PSS Group, the UK’s leading independent designer, manufacturer and supplier of innovative storage solutions, has beaten off stiff competition to win a major order from building products supplier, Toolstation, to design, supply and install a state-of-the-art racking system for its new RDC in Redditch. The 140,000 sq ft warehouse has been established to facilitate the rollout of the company’s national trade counter network, which has grown from 11 to 45 outlets in less than 12 months and continues to expand with three new outlets a month.
Toolstation supplies a range of power tools, accessories, work wear, screws and fixings through its catalogue, Internet and trade counter outlets located throughout the UK and Europe. Last year Toolstation announced that Travis Perkins had taken a 30% stake in the company, which has helped facilitate its rapid expansion.
Building on a previous relationship established with Toolstation’s Operations Director, Adam Keates, Dexion-PSS was chosen for its service, quality products, cost effective solution and renowned project management skills.
In-depth consultations with the client and detailed site surveys have allowed the Dexion-PSS Team to create the optimum solution for Toolstation’s new RDC.
Acting as main contractor, Dexion-PSS proposed the installation of a new 15,000 sq ft mezzanine floor, shelving and live storage throughout the facility. To provide Toolstation with the target number of tote storage locations and the ability to accommodate a variety of heavy to light duty items, Dexion-PSS specified its Stronglock adjustable pallet racking. This has been utilised to create over 4,000 pallet locations in VNA and some 10,000 locations within a wide aisle system, with beam lengths and weight loadings calculated to suit each category of product.

The Stronglock racking system has maximised the use of vertical space and provided Toolstation with a system that can accommodate its increasing need for intermediate storage. Designed to carry heavy weights in each pallet slot, the racking system was completed on time and within strict budget constraints.
