The first bump cap to conform to EN812+A1 was the JSP HardCap A1+, which offers far greater protection than required by the standard it was designed to meet. The cap comes in a range of colours and can carry corporate logos like other work headwear, but behind the smart exterior is a tough safety product that exceeds both the impact and penetration tests set by the EN.

JSP has raised the standard with its HardCap A1, which can withstand a 500g impact dropped from 0.5m from any direction up to 60 degrees off- centre, and extends the spike penetration protection to the same extent. This greatly exceeds the protection requirements of EN812+A1, and as a result the new JSP product is the highest performing baseball style bump cap on the market.

As a fashion item the HardCap A1+ comes in several colour combinations including Hi Viz orange. Reflective piping that edges the cap looks great and increases visibility, and the choice of three peak sizes makes the product suitable for many indoor and outdoor working situations. As a safety product, HardCap A1+ provides protection from bumps and scrapes to the side of the head as well as the considerably enhanced crown protection.

The HardCap A1+ is comfortable for long periods of time irrespective of head size thanks to a castellated bottom edge, an angled adjuster, a terry-towelling sweatband and a hi-flow ventilation feature. The cap is not seamed in the logo area, and can easily be enlivened with designs, names or messages, either heat transfer logos or embroidered. Bespoke caps may be made in corporate colours in specific pantones; the product is popular with police forces and often coloured to match uniforms.
