Victoria Blake, Event Director of Easyfairs’ UK Packaging Portfolio, shines a spotlight on Packaging Innovations 2020 and what can be expected from the show.

Tell us more about Packaging Innovations?

Our two-day Packaging Innovations event at Birmingham’s NEC is the largest packaging event in the UK, something we are very proud of. Incorporating our co-located events Ecopack, Contract Pack & Fulfilment, Label&Print, and Empack, it is the only event which caters for the whole of the packaging supply chain, all under one roof. This enables our visitors to meet with over 300 industry leading suppliers to discover solutions for every aspect of the packaging process, from concept through to fulfilment.

The event also features a comprehensive seminar programme set across four stages which allows visitors to hear from industry leaders, innovators, and policy influencers. Alongside this, there are numerous networking opportunities across both days of the show and interactive features for visitors to experience first-hand.

Which industry sectors are your customers in?

Our visitors and exhibitors that join the show each year are from a broad array of sectors. As a show that caters for the whole supply chain, we have leading exhibitors from the worlds of primary and secondary packaging, contract packing, logistics, software, labelling, and everything in between.

As for visitors, experts from start-ups and household names attend from across the food and drink, beauty, pharmaceutical, e-commerce, and industrial sectors, all looking to discover the latest advancements in technologies and solutions.

What do you have in store for the show?

With five co-located shows under one roof, the exhibition floor will consist of over 300 suppliers, many of which will be launching their latest innovations to the UK market live at the event. Alongside our exhibitors, we will host our free-to-attend seminar programme which will explore topics from concept and design through to print and logistics. To offer visitors specialising in specific sectors detailed insights, we will also host tailored industry forums for the food, drink, beauty, pharmaceutical, and e-commerce sectors.

We also have several interactive show features taking place, including our new Education Hub which has been designed to connect industry experts with students and apprentices to inspire the next generation of packaging professionals.

What are the major trends and developments affecting the industry and your customers, and how are you responding?

Sustainability and the debate around plastics, along with consumer and media pressure, has had a big impact on the packaging community. Brands and retailers are under huge scrutiny to address the issues around plastic waste and the environmental impact of packaging. At the show, we have a huge array of suppliers displaying their technologies and innovations designed to tackle these issues. Our Ecopack show also offers visitors the opportunity to find solutions to their sustainability challenges.

We also have numerous free-to-attend seminar sessions focussed on the challenges around plastic waste, bringing together key industry experts to share the latest thinking and leading case studies on the topic. As the conversation has moved on from the issue of just plastics in packaging, the ever popular ‘The Big Plastics Debate’ will return as ‘The Big Carbon Debate’ to reflect that the industry needs to focus on climate change and the environmental impact more holistically.
