What are your best-known products/solutions/services?

At Antalis Packaging our experts are renowned for finding packaging solutions to a wide range of challenges whether this is a bespoke pack design, new packaging or machinery.

We have an unrivalled machinery team and in-house engineers who offer solutions from stand-along packaging equipment to fully-automated bespoke systems, design and installation. We also offer a free consultation service where we can identify when machinery can provide improvements.

Our Smart Packaging Centre (SPC) is Antalis’s ‘state-of-the art’ lab. Here our experts help customers resolve packaging-related issues by coming up with innovative designs and bespoke solutions to their packaging challenges.

We are also known for our range of specialist packaging products. From packaging boards, void fill, pallets, tapes, shrink and stretch films and strapping to automated equipment.

Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?

We can work with anyone who wants help with packaging, particularly logistics, ecommerce, retail and manufacturing companies. Packaging Solutions for ecommerce is growing and now accounts for around 20% of our business.

What are your most recent product innovations?

Returnable packaging and how items are sent back into stock can be a major challenge for many retailers. A recent example of innovation is where we helped a client with their returns packaging for larger items such as TV’s and garden furniture – where an item has been ordered online and returned to store. These items then need to be repacked to send back to the central warehouse. The TV’s packaging used wasn’t suitable which meant they banged together during transport and broke. Our new solution was a box with foam inserts which fit around the TV’s to prevent damage. The TV’s can now be resold.

What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?

As public support gathers behind the call to address climate change, businesses are increasingly looking to operate more sustainably, therefore the need for sustainable packaging solutions is an essential development.

Bespoke reusable packaging is increasingly required for efficient distribution – this is packaging that can be used to deliver parts from a factory/warehouse to another factory for assembly. The packaging can then be returned and parts sent out again. Working with our clients Antalis Packaging is increasingly developing such returnable solutions – reducing waste, damage and packaging.

Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

Our client Ansell Lighting needed to make improvements to cope with an increase in distribution. Antalis Packaging conducted an audit in order to understand the business’s needs. Our recommendations helped them achieve benefits including saving approximately 30% on materials. We introduced new machines, environmentally-friendly packaging, customised packing benches, improved workstation efficiency and freed up warehouse space.

Another recent client was distributing components for the manufacture of earth moving equipment – however the packaging was not protecting the goods sufficiently. It also contained plastic, was labour intensive to construct and was wasteful with materials. By collaborating with Antalis’ Smart Packaging team, this client has been able to achieve tangible sustainable benefits (removing the need for a plastic bag and reducing board material) – and overall cost and efficiency savings have been made with the new concept.

How does business in 2019 compared to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?

2019 has been challenging for many of our customers as Brexit uncertainty coupled with high street concerns suggest that businesses and the general public are being more careful with their finances. For us at Antalis Packaging this has led to new opportunities as clients are increasing coming to us to find solutions for packaging materials, products and services that will help their business improve packaging efficiencies and streamline processes – which ultimately will help them to reduce cost.

What’s the latest news from your company?

In the summer of 2019 we celebrated the 1st anniversary of the Antalis Smart Packaging Centre. Since opening its doors we have helped over 50 customers to find solutions to their packaging challenges. Antalis SPC also installed a new box maker machine in 2019 – the new machine is an extension of our services giving us enhanced capabilities to produce specialist bespoke packaging, sampling and trial orders. In November we were delighted that one of our recent packaging designs for a leading manufacturer had been nominated for ‘Resource Efficient Pack of the Year’ at the Packaging News Awards.

Can you tell us about any areas where you’re currently making technical advances?

We are continuously working on reducing our environment impact as a business as well as helping our customers to minimise theirs. Using the services of our Smart Packaging Centre we carry out a full review of any packaging operation and create a tailored-made solution to improve sustainability. We are also expanding our range of green packaging essentials and environmental services such as carbon offsetting and waste management. Our aim is to help our customers make the right packaging choices for their business and the environment.

Are you investing in staff training and skills development?

At Antalis, we are always investing in the training of our employees to make sure they are able to deliver the very best solutions and services to our customers.
