At AITT, we support training providers with the resources and assistance they need to deliver top-quality operator and instructor training for workplace transport. We have taken huge strides to enhance not only the tools available to the industry, but also to elements within our own organisation, to ensure that training continually adheres to the highest standards.

Managing Director at AITT

Earlier this year, we launched our innovative portable electronic forklift testing document — known as PEFT — to make testing procedures faster and easier for both instructors and operators. PEFT eliminates the need for physical paperwork, providing an efficient, sustainable and practical way to monitor forklift training.

We also revealed a major initiative to improve the standards of our member training organisations with the introduction of a brand new level of accreditation: AITT Excellence. Training providers that go above and beyond the normal industry requirements can earn the status of AITT Excellence by meeting exacting criteria and satisfying additional AITT checks during their audit. Our members already provide outstanding services, but now they can aim even higher, and in the long-term this motivation to progress will benefit their customers, their business, and industry standards.

A dynamic alliance

AITT is committed to supporting those working within the forklift truck industry, as well as those owning and operating equipment on site, which is why we have formed a dynamic alliance with the Fork Lift Truck Association. The alliance is intended to give members of both organisations access to additional, expert information and resources. I see this as an excellent opportunity for us to work even more closely with manufacturers. In turn, this will ensure that training categories and standards are in place to accurately and appropriately support the increasingly specialised new handling equipment entering the market.

To further our ongoing development and diversification, AITT now provides accreditation for work-based transport within the construction industry. We were recently approved as a third-party awarding organisation by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), which helps the construction sector to attract talent and supports skills development. It means that AITT members can now apply to become a CITB Approved Training organisation (ATO) for the construction industry, and can advertise their courses for wider promotion.

I am proud to say that AITT membership has increased by 25 percent this past year. Our growing network of AITT training providers means AITT-accredited courses are now available at more locations around the UK. I believe that we therefore have a responsibility not only to our members, but also to the industry as a whole, to make sure AITT training standards continue to support safer, more efficient practice throughout 2020 and beyond.
