First of all, Darren, can you talk us through the different products and services EFAFLEX UK Ltd provides?

Darren Turrell, Managing Director, EFAFLEX UK Limited

EFAFLEX are the only company worldwide that specialises exclusively in the design and manufacture of high-speed doors. We have, during our almost 50 years, designed a product to suit virtually every industrial application and to match a spectrum of budgets. Our range includes fabric and folding doors, with our unique spiral design, which was introduced over 25 years ago, remaining the world’s fastest vertically opening high-speed door. Others have tried to emulate our design, but ours opens at an incredible 4 metres per second. If you consider that in the context of minimising exposure to the elements when being used as an external door, you’ll understand how we can help clients reduce their energy costs by as much as 50%.

We offer a full turn-key service. From initial contact, complimentary site survey to assess the bespoke requirements, design, manufacture, install and on-going service, maintenance and repair where needed, all carried out by the EFAFLEX team.

What sets your company apart as a supplier in your category?

I’d say our breadth of knowledge and passion for design innovation. As market leaders, we aren’t arrogant or complacent, but constantly striving to deliver innovative products that provide solutions, whether that’s the TLG light-grid safety system, or our unique lath’s construction that deliver incredible thermal insulation. EFAFLEX is unique, both within the breadth of products we design and our passion to deliver an exceptional customer experience. The company has grown year on year, due to our reputation for supplying class leading quality and service.

What business sectors are your customers in? Which industry sectors are growing fastest for you?

Our clients are in virtually every industry sector including chill and cold store, pharmaceutical, cleanroom, warehousing, logistics, and waste recycling. Fundamentally we offer three door types, but with variants in each to match the bespoke needs of the client. Right now, the biggest growth areas for us are food and pharmaceutical.

Which of your core products and solutions are you presenting on your stand at IMHX? Are you launching anything new at the show?

We’ll be presenting our flagship product the premium spiral range, in both styles, insulated (SST) and uninsulated (STT). Last year we introduced the Materials Transport and Logistics (MTL) door which has been exceptionally popular within logistics and warehouse environments. Back by demand, this is a fabric roll-up door that is ideal for intensive commercial and industrial processes and can operate at 250,000 cycles per year. It’s a real ‘work horse’ of a door.

We’ll also be demonstrating our Sales App which enables clients to see a 3D render of their design at the click of a button. On the first day of IMHX, we’ll be joined by our BIM expert to explain to visitors the strides we’ve been making in this area.

Why should busy professionals from the warehouse and logistics industry take time out to visit your stand at IMHX?

For me that’s easy. Seeing is believing and until people actually see our doors in motion, they can’t truly appreciate their speed. When they open at 4 metres per second, you can literally see visitors stopping to take a closer look. Even if they aren’t in the market for a highspeed door, you can see people marvel at the engineering and smile at the speed.

We have a fully manned stand with Product Managers coming over from Germany and our team of Business Development Managers on hand to answer all those technical questions. IMHX is a great opportunity to view our products in action and see the latest in industry innovation.

What do you see as the main benefits to your company from being involved with IMHX?

We are a regular exhibitor at IMHX and welcome customers new and old. For us it provides the ideal platform to demonstrate our products. It’s an opportunity to network with likeminded business professionals and is by far the biggest stage within this sector. It always attracts a healthy footfall of visitors which usually creates a high number of quality sales leads, making the investment worthwhile.

The last IMHX was 2016. How has your business changed since then?

During the last three years EFAFLEX UK has changed immensely. We continue to grow year on year as our reputation expands with clients returning to place repeat orders. We’ve expanded the team in order to manage the growth. We’ve introduced new IT at our Telford Head Office to streamline efficiencies. Product wise we’ve introduced new line extensions so that we can increase our customer base across more industry sectors than ever before.

Can you tell us about your major customer contract wins in the last three years? Do these represent new development areas for your company?

We have had a number of significant contract wins in a range of industry sectors. EFAFLEX has a strong global reputation within the automotive industry and due to the depth of our product range have always been popular in the food and drinks supply chain as we have doors to suit temperatures ranging from cool, chilled through to frozen. Growth has been substantial within general logistics applications and car parking, as it has within temperature and contamination control environments such as cleanroom and pharmaceuticals. But the core of our business remains the replacement of existing door products, switching out traditional roller shutters, or overhead sectional doors as clients become increasing aware of the financial, environmental and safety benefits that we can deliver. Our products can be used in virtually every aspect of day to day life, from automotive manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, warehouse environments and food production. We truly do have a solution for most industrial and commercial applications.

Which other countries do you operate in besides the UK? Which overseas markets are most important for you?

EFAFLEX is a global business. We have representation in more than 50 countries and over five continents, from Austria to Australia, China to Canada, Taiwan to Turkey. Europe is of particular importance and we are proud of our Bavarian roots with EFAFLEX being very well known in our domestic market. And we are still growing strong!

It’s three years to the next IMHX. Where do you see your company going in that time?

We are always looking to the future, with one eye keenly set on the horizon to ensure we continually invest in people, products and our facilities. As global market leaders, we refuse to stand still. Clients’ needs are ever evolving. The world operates at a much faster pace and so we have to ensure that safety is paramount, with the risk of incidents minimised. With that in mind, we have new products planned which as you’d expect will be innovative and sustainable. With some good luck, we hope to be bigger, in terms of customer base, broader in terms of industry sectors served, but with the same ethos, safety, performance and quality at our core.
