Trees – where would we be today without them? Since the early days of man, trees have provided us with food, medicine, infrastructure and they even clean the air for us! And then of course, there’s paper – a product of trees that we all take for granted and which is as important today as it was when it originated back in the first century.

At Pregis, protecting trees is part and parcel of our everyday work. In 2018 alone, our customers saved 122,125 new trees from being cut down through the use of our 100% recycled paper. So, not only can we all help to save trees, we can also help to prevent further deforestation which is highly damaging to eco-systems.

Strong protection for in-the-box packaging

Paper is strong because it is produced by the pressed fibres of cellulose pulp derived from wood.  As well as being strong, it is versatile, durable and sustainable.  All of these qualities make paper an ideal medium for protecting goods in transit, but there are even more benefits to using paper.

Paper is a sustainable product, but recycled paper is even better because no new trees are cut down to produce it.  Paper is also 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable so it will cause no harm to the environment and can be recycled over and over.

How does paper protect heavy or even fragile goods?

If you take a sheet of paper and scrunch it up, you can throw it at a wall and it will just bounce off and stay intact.  The principal of industrial paper packaging is much the same.

At Pregis, our Easypack® range of paper systems use this principal to turn different weights of paper sheets into very robust paper cushions.  Being so flexible and strong, the cushions can then be used as void fill or protective packaging, whether for heavy industrial goods or even delicate items such as glass or ceramics.  You can watch full product demonstrations of Easypack systems in action at www.pregiseu.com.

What’s the difference between recycled paper and Kraft paper?

Firstly, Kraft paper (or board) is produced from chemical pulp, whereas our recycled paper is free of chemicals or oil-based products.  Our recycled paper is also PH neutral so it is not harmful to the environment if it does reach landfill.

No new trees are cut down to produce our recycled paper. It also uses up to 60% less energy and water to produce than Kraft paper and it is compliant with European packaging regulations.

So, if you’re going to switch to paper packaging, it makes sense to choose environmentally friendly recycled paper over Kraft paper.

Certification

At Pregis, all of our paper is 100% recycled, 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable. We are ISO 14001 accredited and our paper complies with EU packaging regulations. Our paper also comes with a certificate that outlines all of the benefits that recycled paper offers, which can be shared with your customers.

Our customers also receive an annual tree certificate that shows how many trees they save each year through the use of our recycled paper. This is a fantastic brand message to share with customers.
