EFAFLEX has been developing and designing highly efficient, effective, high-speed doors solutions since 1974. With its innovative technology and reputation for optimised door solutions, EFAFLEX plays a commanding role around the world in this competitive market. But despite serving a global customer base, EFAFLEX’s heritage is intrinsically linked to Germany, where it all started.

Darren Turrell, MD of EFAFLEX UK

Warehouse & Logistics News’ Commercial Director Rob Hollows went to Bruckberg, near Munich, to visit the company headquarters as a guest of Darren Turrell, MD of EFAFLEX UK, their UK operation, to find out more. On site with Darren during the visit were Christian Jacob, Head of Strategic Marketing and Claus Mueller, Area Sales Manager. Rob Hollows takes up the story.

With over 40 years’ experience in providing effective solutions that save clients’ money, EFAFLEX are now the door suppliers of choice for a new generation of processing, packaging and logistics professionals wanting efficient, effective products enhanced with a leading edge design. Darren Turrell explains:

“At EFAFLEX we are seen as innovative and pioneers within the high speed door industry, as much now as when we won acclaim with our first ground-breaking products. Part of our enduring success is due to our heritage spanning over four decades, with knowledge and skills passed down through generations of families that work here.”

Bruckberg is a small community with a population of just over 5,000 – and is also home to a world leading company, EFAFLEX. The leafy rural setting of EFAFLEX’s head office location helps create the ideal atmosphere to inspire engineers and designers to continually forge a stream of fresh innovations in highspeed door technology.

EFAFLEX is the only door manufacturer in the world listed in the German Lexicon of Global Market Leaders 2011 and 2015 and in the Global Market Leader Index. With 30 listed patents, EFAFLEX has clients across industry including manufacturing, food and pharmaceuticals.

EFAFLEX’s technological lead in this area stems from its invention of spiral door technology. Rather than wound onto a shaft, the curtain is installed in a circular, round spiral configuration without contact between the parts, allowing the door to open and close in seconds. The curtain’s friction-free operation considerably reduces wear and tear.

With operations on five continents and in over 50 countries EFAFLEX is able to manufacture and install doors to meet individual customers’ requirements worldwide. The doors pay for themselves: Darren Turrell mentions a case study where installing an EFAFLEX door saved a customer up to 4,600 litres of heating oil per heating period and spared the ecosystem up to 13 tonnes of CO² pollution.

The EFAFLEX portfolio offers a choice of doors for all applications. There is the EFA-SST® range of highspeed spiral doors: the EFA-SFT® high speed folding door: the EFASTT ® high speed turbo door: and the EFA-STR® high speed turbo roll-up door, the fastest vertically opening door in the world, opening at up to 4 m/second. EFAFLEX’s specialist doors for particular sectors include variations for deep freeze areas, clean room & cold storage applications, parking systems, ATEX rated areas and doors for the defence sector. Particularly important for warehouse operations, the EFA-SRT® is a heavyduty internal use door, ideally suited for frequent forklift truck use.

The full range of EFAFLEX’s world leading doors are available in Britain from the company’s dedicated UK operation in Telford. Darren Turrell takes up the story:

“We purposely chose Telford, in the heart of the motorway network, as a base for our UK sales and service centre. With clients the length and breadth of the land our team can respond quickly and effectively to calls for service, maintenance and support. We also have regionally based EFAFLEX technicians nationwide, who can be on hand rapidly, ensuring costly downtime is reduced to a minimum.”

EFAFLEX are regular exhibitors at over 55 industry events here in the UK and globally. You can find out more about EFAFLEX’s high speed door solutions at the PPMA Show 2018, at the NEC from 25-27 September.
