Calan Kenward, Apprentice at LG Motion, has been chosen as a finalist for the Southern Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year 2018. The award, launched by The Business Magazine in April 2018, is open to all engineering and manufacturing companies in the Thames Valley and Solent & South-Central region. It seeks to acknowledge the exceptional contribution of apprentices within the STEM industries.

Calan is in his third year at LG Motion and part way through his level 4 Advanced Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship programme. He is one of five finalists who hopes to win the award outright. Peter Laurie, head of client relations at The Business Magazine, said of the shortlisted candidates, “All five candidates are exceptional apprentices who stand out due to their commitment and tenacity. They are all ‘champions’ and we are looking forward to crowning one of them Apprentice of the Year at our special event at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry on October 31.”

Gary Livingstone, Managing Director of LG Motion, is delighted that Calan’s outstanding contribution has been recognised. LG Motion strongly believe in hiring apprentices to the next generation of mechanical engineers. He said, “Calan has brought a lot to our team. It is a simple process for LG Motion to invest in him as he meets all the criteria we seek in our employees: tenacity, curiosity, intelligence and passion for the industry.”
