Multiplastics (Europe) Ltd, the Cheshirebased European distribution arm for American firm Multi-Plastics Inc., has been one of the most recent UK organisations to cost-effectively renew apparatus within its loading bay facility, using Thorworld Industries’ ‘3-year ramp swap’.

Multiplastics’ Northwich site, an operation which is fully compliant with the latest BRC and ISO standards, has financially and logistically benefited from the use of a rented, Thorworld Industries’ mobile ramp since 2013.

The company, which globally distributes manufactured and converted filmic products, is committed to ensuring safe loading practice and has recently explored options to replace its five-year-old Thorworld mobile ramp with an identical, brand-new model.

“Our existing loading ramp had performed superbly,” Paul Cotterill, Production Manager at Multiplastics explains, “however to ensure our operation remained fully efficient, we felt it was time to replace the apparatus with a newer installation.”

He goes on to say how impressed he’s been with the design and capabilities of the Thorworld ramp his company has been using, and that it has been effectively put through its paces over the last five-years.

“We couldn’t fault the equipment, so it’s been an easy decision to make to replace the ramp with a like-for-like solution.”

Thorworld Industries offers its rental customers the option to have hired mobile ramps replaced free-ofcharge, should they decide to continue their rental arrangement after a threeyear period for a further three years.

Multiplastics’ ramp had successfully facilitated the use of forklift trucks in the loading and unloading of containers containing reels of film. The ramp had been supplied by Thorworld on a rental basis – an agreement which proved more cost effective for Multiplastics than owning the ramp outright.

As part of the Swap In incentive, Thorworld manufactured a new mobile ramp, identical in design, and delivered at no additional cost, and in the shortest feasible timeframe, enabling Multiplastics to continue loading with little disruption to operations.

“We’re very pleased that Multiplastics has found its initial rented ramp to be so enabling; such that the firm has chosen to renew its agreement with us, choosing new apparatus of the same design,” says Mark James, Thorworld’s Director of Administration, Quality and Safety.

“Our Swap In plan can prove to be an effective solution for many warehouse operations; often because warehouse managers want the safety advantages of using equipment that never becomes outmoded, can be easily serviced, or can be used temporarily without permanent fixings or the need for groundworks – should a warehouse premises be rented.

“Swapping In can for many firms, actually prove a cheaper method of accessing independently tested, compliant loading apparatus, than purchasing equipment as an owned entity. It’s an option that’s not always considered, but is certainly worth deliberating, as the advantages could well-be in an organisation’s favour,” he concludes.
