Welcome to the May 1st edition of Warehouse & Logistics News. Spring and summer are generally held as good times to carry out warehouse development and installation projects because of the lighter mornings and evenings and more agreeable working conditions. Hence as the sunny weather finally arrives, our features in this issue look at three major warehouse development topics, Lifting Gear & Cranes, Doors & Curtains and Warehouse Flooring.

As a forward-looking magazine, we like to feature companies who set the trends rather than follow them. On our front cover automation experts Swisslog, fits this bill perfectly, with their report on how warehouses will look like in 2030. Increasing demand on warehousing will depend even more on automation and technology with population expansion and the Swisslog White Paper on the subject is a compelling read.

In our Lifting Gear & Cranes feature, we look ahead to Vertikal Days, the UK and Ireland’s largest lifting equipment event show, which takes place later this month at Donington Park in Leicestershire, on May 16-17. TVH welcome readers to join them on stand 304 to find out more about their long and short rental of aerial work platforms and replacement parts as well as the lift trucks and spares TVH are also famous for.

In our Warehouse Flooring feature David Collins-Lafferty, Marketing Manager at Westgate Factory Dividers, discusses how to get round the fact that all major warehouse flooring projects come with an element of downtime. Creating a full enclosure or partition can be one of the most disruptive possible warehouse activities but with Westgate’s Flexiwall solution, installations are much quicker and cleaner than building masonry or stud walls. Panels are pre-manufactured offsite and quickly suspended and tensioned onsite. Westgate recently installed over 600m2 of Flexiwall in less than a week.

Under the Doors & Curtains heading, Union Industries have appointed a new Sales Office Manager to support growing demand from both new and existing customers. Helen Holland joins the Leeds-based company with more than 30 years’ sales experience. She will oversee Union’s sales force, which is delivering the company’s range of High Speed Door and Industrial Curtain solutions to UK and international markets.

Hot on the heels of Foodex and Multimodal, we now have the Royal Wedding and FA Cup Final to look forward to on 19th May, not to mention the Chelsea Flower Show for garden lovers.

Have a great May!
