EGGER’s 30mm OSB HDX is the ideal material for heavy duty projects that require a high load bearing capacity. It is suitable for applications such as mezzanine flooring, racking, shelving, working platforms and decking, where P5 or P6 38mm chipboard would typically be used.

A current problem facing expanding businesses is a shortage of warehouse space. This can be a daunting prospect especially with the disruption and high costs associated with relocating or renting premises. EGGER OSB HDX is a game changer for those considering mezzanine flooring projects.

Alan White, Director of Sales for Building Products at EGGER UK, explains, “Installing a mezzanine floor is a cost effective and efficient solution to insufficient storage capacity, optimising existing floor space and potentially doubling the area for a one off cost.

“EGGER OSB HDX is wider, lighter and stronger than conventional 38mm boards, as well as having higher load points and UDLs. “This innovative product can help businesses make significant savings on time and cost by using fewer materials and laying floors quicker.

“The boards’ low swelling properties also mean it’s less likely to pick up moisture which can lead to uneven floors. Another benefit for installers is it’s easy to fit. With a tongue and groove profile on the two long edges, the panels are laid the same way as 38mm chipboard.”

Wyder Engineered Timber Systems, based in Preston expanded its on-site production facilities by creating a 280 sq.m mezzanine level. Dave Williams, Company Director, said “We specified EGGER OSB HDX panels to create the substrate floor for the mezzanine level because of its performance. The panels are denser and stronger than traditional 38mm chipboard and offer superior insulation and sound reduction from the factory noise below.”

EGGER OSB HDX is a 2400 x 675 board which has a tongue and groove on the two long edges. Compared to a typical 38mm chipboard equivalent (600mm width), the user gets just over 11% more coverage per panel. Despite this extra width, due to EGGER OSB HDX being only 30mm thick, it is around 20% lighter than 38mm chipboard. A lighter, wider board means that it is easier to manoeuvre and quicker to lay.
