As the world population looks set to reach nine billion by 2050, demand for food is expected to double, according to the WWF. Faced with this increasing demand, firms are increasingly concerned with boosting the efficiency of their supply chains and innovating in order to take advantage of a rapidly expanding industry.

Many of these firms will be found at Foodex 2018, the UK’s leading trade event for the food and drink processing, packaging and logistics industries, which returns to the NEC Birmingham in April. The event will bring unprecedented insights into the latest innovations in food logistics, providing attendees with an understanding of the hottest trends driving this growing sector forward, helping them find ways to stay at the forefront of their field.

Taking place over three days (16- 18 April 2018), Foodex will see over 400 suppliers exhibit at the show, including Cerulean, JD Cooling Systems, Olivewood Technology, Teknomek Industries and Veolia, who will be joined by a raft of other industry leaders and innovators.

One of the most important aspects in improving logistics efficiency is the software underlying a firm’s processes.

Foodex exhibitors Cybake (stand Y249), Britain’s number one bakery management software specialist, will bring its automated instore ordering and replenishment system, and Automated Packaging Systems to the show. Cybake is also a provider of highly accurate packing systems, ideal for fragile food.

The latest innovations need not be limited to developments in third party logistics, as efficiency savings at every step of the supply chain can lead to savings, and improved profit margins. Vikan UK (stand BB278), for example, will be exhibiting its range of ultrahygienic products for use throughout the food supply chain.

Toyota Material Handling UK (stand K260) will also be joining Foodex in 2018, offering a complete range of solutions from forklifts and warehouse equipment to automation solutions.

Visitors to the show will also benefit from unrivalled networking opportunities for suppliers and buyers across the industry, and an extensive programme of interactive events, discussions and debates.

To ensure visitors get the most out of their time at the show, the programme will hone in on sectorspecific trends and topics, with the full educational programme announced in the next few weeks.

Dan Dixon, Sales Director, commented: “Increasing supply chain efficiency is one of the most effective ways for firms to reduce overheads and increase profits. Foodex recognises this, bringing logistics experts from all corners of the industry to contribute their insights and experience, providing unique opportunities for visitors to learn and be inspired.”

Foodex is co-located with Food & Drink Expo, National Convenience Show, Farm Shop & Deli Show, as well as William Reed’s brand-new event The Ingredients Show.
