Rittal-CSM Ltd is part of the global Friedhelm Loh Group, and produces IT server racks and industrial switchgear enclosures for many well-known OEM clients at their Plymouth base.

Rittal-CSM approached Wessex Packaging, as they are the official distributors in Great Britain for the ErgoPack range of machines.

Designed and manufactured in Lauingen, Germany, the innovative ErgoPack machines were specifically designed to provide an easier, more ergonomic and ultimately more effective way to strap and secure pallets.

The opportunity for Rittal-CSM was to improve the well-being and efficiency of their operations team, who are responsible for packing and securing their products ahead of being transported to customers, or being moved within Rittal’s logistics operations. Additionally a mix of product heights and widths meant that they were looking for a solution that could strap effectively across their range.

ErgoPack’s innovative and unique ‘ChainLance’ technology enables an operator to strap a pallet without moving around the pallet or bending and also removes the effect of vibrations to the operator when sealing the strapping bands.

Wessex Packaging’s Technical Manager, Simon Watt, worked with the Rittal-CSM team to identify the issues involved and propose a solution with the ErgoPack 712E mobile strapping machine. On-site training and support has ensured that the Rittal-CSM team is fully enabled to improve the strapping operations of over 200 pallets per day, with an average strapping time of less than 2 minutes per pallet.
