Following its success in winning the International Forklift of the Year (IFOY) award in 2016, in the category for counter balanced forklifts up to 3.5 tonnes, BYD has once again been nominated for this year’s IFOY award, the IFOY organization officially announced earlier this week.

The BYD nominee in the Counter Balanced Truck category is the new ECB50, a 5 tonne pure electric forklift powered by the maintenancefree BYD Iron-Phosphate battery, able to work non-stop at least 6 hours before charging and capable of being fully recharged in under 3 hours.

With 50% more working time than its direct Lithium power competitors, it is able to effectively replace gas, diesel or lead-acid machines for indoors and outdoors use, strongly contributing to CO2 reduction in outdoor use.

It is intended to be used indoors but most importantly outdoors in the construction materials, beverage, manufacturing and refuse processing industries, amongst others.

Only one other truck has been nominated in this category.

From February on, the nominees in all categories will be tested during the international IFOY Test Days in Hanover, Germany by an international jury. The winners will be announced at the CeMAT trade fair in April also in Hanover.

Javier Contijoch, Director of Industrial Vehicles at BYD Europe, said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted again for the second time for the IFOY award. Our proven technology has been recognized by many decision makers already and has shown that it offers companies a significant advantage in reducing operating costs up to 40% thanks to BYD’s battery management and TCO reduction. This nomination motivates us in continuing to develop efficient, environment-friendly concepts for material handling, passenger transport and energy storage.”
