EGGER’s 30mm OSB HDX is the ideal material for heavy duty projects that require a high load bearing capacity. Applications such as mezzanine flooring, racking, shelving, working platforms and decking, where P5 or P6 38mm chipboard would typically be used.

A current problem facing expanding businesses is a shortage warehouse space. This can be a daunting prospect especially with the disruption and high costs associated with relocating premises.

Installing a mezzanine floor in existing premises is a cost effective and efficient solution to insufficient storage capacity. Optimising existing floor space and potentially doubling the area for a one off cost.

Gary Muir, Distribution Sales Manager for Building Products at EGGER UK, said “EGGER OSB HDX has been a game changer for those involved in mezzanine flooring projects. It is wider, lighter and stronger than conventional 38mm boards, as well as having higher load points and UDLs.

This innovative product can help businesses make significant savings on time and cost by using fewer materials and laying floors quicker.”

Wyder Engineered Timber Systems, based in Preston expanded its on-site production facilities by creating a 280 sq.m mezzanine level. Dave Williams Company Director explains “Installing a mezzanine floor has enabled us to reclaim what was otherwise wasted space. The mezzanine level is three times the size of the original area located on the ground floor. Our new purpose-built premises have doubled the space we need to enable the business to grow.

“We specified EGGER OSB HDX panels to create the substrate floor for the mezzanine level because of its performance. The panels are denser and stronger than traditional 38mm chipboard and offer superior insulation and sound reduction from the factory noise below.”

EGGER OSB HDX is a 2400mm x 675mm board with a tongue and groove on the two long edges. Its low swelling properties mean it’s less likely than P6 chipboard to pick up moisture which can lead to uneven floors.

Against a typical 38mm chipboard equivalent with a 600mm width, the user gets just over 11% more coverage per panel. Despite this extra width, it is around 20% lighter than 38mm chipboard making it easier to manoeuvre and quicker to lay. Panels are also denser offering superior insulation and sound reduction qualities.

EGGER OSB HDX was launched in 2015, and since has been developed further to deliver additional benefits to the end user. Fully sanded surfaces on both sides of the board, has improved performance, making it less prone to wear and tear. These sanded surfaces also offer a more aesthetically pleasing finish to the floors once laid. Gary explains: “We’re always pushing the boundaries with our products to offer customers innovative and high quality solutions for their projects.”
