International development organisation Transaid has appointed Sam Clark, 44, as its new Head of Programmes. Sam’s passion for the development sector comes from the 20 years he spent in various community-based development programmes for several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa. Those experiences allowed him to work across a wide variety of overseas projects, which has continued during his time with Transaid.
His most notable project for Transaid currently sees him playing a leading role in the Professional Driver Training – Uganda (PDTU) project, which to date is one of Transaid’s largest externally funded road safety programmes.
In 2013 he joined Transaid as Programme Support Manager, where his responsibilities included offering support in the field, conducting quality assurance, and offering technical assistance to many of Transaid’s programmes.
Commenting on his appointment, Sam says: “I am very excited to take on the role of Head of Programmes. The organisation truly aims to make the biggest impact possible to the widest variety of people and it’s inspiring to be part of its growing journey.
“I’m really looking forward to this new opportunity to develop relations with partners that I wouldn’t have worked with before and to get actively involved in more of our projects.”
Within his new role, Sam expects to spend about three months in the field every year, with his time spread across the five countries in which Transaid currently has projects – Madagascar, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
