First of all, safety is the focal point of the SEMA Annual Safety Conference and Exhibition, taking place on Thursday 2nd November at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, with Warehouse & Logistics News as official media partner. Speakers include SEMA, the HSE and end users including Coca Cola, ACCO and Skymark Packaging and the chair is SEMA President Jaap Vos. If you missed our SEMA Safety Conference Preview in the October 15th issue, don’t worry, you can read the digital edition on our website.

There’s more about safety on our front page courtesy of Hörmann, the industrial doors and loading bay specialists. According to the Employer’s Liability Insurance Association for Trade and Distribution of Goods, loading platforms and docking stations are “an accident hotspot in warehouse logistics.” Loading bay safety is something warehouse operators need to focus on day in day out. Now help is at hand from Hörmann, who have brought out the innovative MWB wheel-blocking system, which ensures lorries remain in the safe docking position during the loading process.

In our Fork Truck News section, ‘Safety Guaranteed’ is the headline of our extended article about Unicarriers’ materials handling solution for the nine European distribution centres operated by Johnson Controls’ fire safety division. At the Letchworth logistics centre, opened in 2016, Unicarriers’ 360o solution includes equipment, tools and services, supported by Health & Safety and Fleet Information modules, ensuring effective and safe material flow. The security and fire protection system ranges were added to Johnson Controls’ service portfolio when they acquired Tyco in 2016. Tyco started using UniCarriers’ warehouse trucks back in 1990 and today Unicarriers equips all nine European fire protection product distribution centres with industrial trucks.
