Herchenbach first provided a 2500m2 temporary warehouse to Henkel in 2011. Since then, this warehousing type has proven highly efficient for the operations at their Heidelberg site, and as such, has now been expanded by 1100 m2 to a total of 3600 m2.

When Herchenbach and Henkel discussed the possibility of a new warehouse in early 2011, in view of expanding the facilities in Heidelberg, it was key to conduct the expansion with minimal operational disruption and in within a short timeframe. Together with the customer, Herchenbach developed a concept of two temporary warehouses adjacent to each other, to be installed on the current asphalt surface without any groundworks. With an installation period of only 3 weeks, the additional 2500 m2 of space allowed Henkel to quickly expand the operational capacity – a construction timescale that would not have been possible with any other building solution. The warehouse is ideally suited to protect the goods from wind, rain and dust.

Due to the success of this project in 2011, Henkel immediately contacted Herchenbach when demand for new warehousing space arose at their Heidelberg site. During the on-site meeting, we evaluated various temporary warehouse options. One scenario would have been to install a new building in ca. 300m distance from the current Herchenbach warehouse. However, it was concluded that the most cost-effective and operationally-efficient solution was to expand the original building footprint, erected in 2011, by another bay and thus gain extra space in days. All Herchenbach buildings can be expanded in length (by adding more frames) and in width (by installing another bay) due to their modular construction technique.

The decision by site management to add another bay, also yielded the most additional warehouse space compared to all other options. During 10 days on-site the Herchenbach installation experts completed the expansion – including the installation of industrial lighting, roller gates and emergency exit push bar doors.

“Projects of this nature are particularly exciting and illustrate how our flexible temporary buildings and warehouses fulfil a customer need and function as long-term solutions” says Stuart Rathbone, Managing Director of Herchenbach LTD. Rapid availability, flexibility, durability and cost-efficiency are fundamental to Herchenbach’s temporary buildings. Customers highly value this and the amount of repeat business steadily increases.
