First of all, just before we went to press Warehouse & Logistics News’ Rob Hollows flew to Verona in Italy as the guest of STILL UK Sales & Marketing Director Steve Gerrard for the European unveiling of STILL’s new OPX series of order pickers, promising greater efficiency and fatigue-free working. The all-new range includes nine order pickers and the LTX 50 tugger truck with a 5-ton towing power, mounted on the same platform as the OPX models.

Steve Gerrard, UK Sales & Marketing Director of STILL says: “We are very excited about the new OPX order picker – it has been designed with comfort and productivity for the operator as a priority, this combined with a low lifetime cost we truly believe we have the right combination for our customers.

STILL are at the forefront in terms of customer & product innovation – premium products like the OPX lifts us yet again up another level – exciting times!”

Next, we’re off to the German state of Brandenburg for our front page story about DMDrogerie markt, Europe’s topearning drugstore chain, who have awarded a third major contract to Swisslog, their longterm intralogistics partner. In a project lasting over two and a half years, Swisslog will take charge of all the construction and systems installations for an innovative logistics centre valued at nearly 100 million euros and with a total area of around 162,000 square metres, to be built to the west of Berlin.

Also in this issue we interview Darren Turrell, MD of EFAFLEX UK Ltd, the British arm of EFAFLEX, who are headquartered in Bavaria and have built an enviable global reputation for their high-speed spiral doors. The EFA-SST® was the first of its kind when it launched in the early nineties.

Today, more than 20 years on, EFAFLEX’s technology remains unrivalled and they still hold the accolade as makers of the world’s fastest vertically opening doors. Important these days, EFAFLEX high-speed doors are environmentally friendly too, with most of the structure made of steel and aluminium: even the transit packaging is recyclable.

And finally after all this European activity, we’re back to Britain and the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, setting for last month’s TCS&D Show, with its focus on temperature-controlled storage and distribution.

Congratulations to Unicarriers, who won the Materials Handling Equipment Provider of The Year Award in this year’s TCS&D Awards, presented at the show. As winter nears, Unicarriers’ state of the art heated cold store cabins and ergonomic working environment promise operator comfort all through a shift – enough to make your staff actually look forward to coming in on a winter morning.
