WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Shredding! I’m now only allowed to do the shredding (although I regularly break the shredder), order stationery and make a brew.
WLN – Who’s inspired you most in your career?
My Sales Director when I worked in corporate. ‘This is only a suggestion, just remember who’s making it!’. A brilliant management philosophy which I’ve found very, very useful.
WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
A hand pallet truck. It’s like a perfect employee – in return for a little TLC it’s hard working, reliable and supremely useful!
WLN – If you had your career all over again, what would you do different?
Start HallmarkFIX 40 years rather than 20 years ago.
WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?
Being shown a photograph of me dancing on a window ledge with a rose in my teeth, in a restaurant in Hamburg following a sales meeting (it was a cracking evening though)!

I wish I had any, never mind hidden!

Arkwright from Open All Hours. The perfect small businessman!
WLN – What is the greatest luxury in your life?
Freedom to do with my time as I will.
WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
Bricks! There were literally thousands of small brickworks across the UK in Victorian times. Look closely and you’ll often see the brickyards name imprinted in the brick. Truly fascinating.
WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?
There are limits to what I’ll tell you!
WLN – What’s your dream holiday destination?
Faroe Islands. Unspoilt, beautiful and a walker’s paradise.
WLN – What are your three favourite movies of all time?
High Noon, High Noon and High Noon.
WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?
The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. The best book I’ve ever read on small business.
WLN – What’s your favourite pastime?
I have more than a passing interest in good red wine!
WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
Buy better vintages!
