Today’s busy warehouse and logistics centres contain a mix of hazards such as pipework, plant and machinery and changes in level, hampering safe movement around some areas, while making others difficult to reach.

With these environments becoming more complicated, traditional access systems such as ladders, scissor lifts, portable access systems or fabricated platforms do not always provide the required design flexibility to overcome these hazards. Step overs and platforms constructed from fittings and tube allow bespoke solutions to be constructed according to individual applications and are the ideal answer to providing access to areas where normal access can be obstructed.

In addition to the flexibility of design, structures constructed from fittings and tube can be installed quickly and without the need for detailed site surveys and time consuming construction. Fittings provide an extremely secure, robust, corrosion resistant access platform or step over and by using off the shelf fittings also allows the structure to be delivered and constructed quickly and easily, with minimal disruption on-site. Assembly is simple, all that’s required is a hex tool and tube cutters, as opposed to a fabricated solution which requires cutting and welding which can compromise the metal’s anti-corrosion properties, leading to potential problems in the future. The modular design also enables changes to be made easily on site if required.

Access platforms can be static to provide a permanent safety solution, or mobile, which are particularly suited to warehouse environments where they may be required for use in several locations. Safety can be further enhanced by the inclusion of a self-closing safety gate when working at height or accessing plant and machinery.

Kee System’s access platforms and step overs are custom built from either Kee Klamp® galvanised or Kee Lite® fittings and tube and can be designed up to 3m in height. When higher access is required, the platform is constructed with the addition of an extra support arm. All platforms and step overs are designed to comply with current regulations and standards such as the Work at Height Regulations, BS5395: Part 3 and EN: 14122, BS 1139-6:2005 or PAS 250 to ensure you are provided with optimum safety at all times.

Whether it’s inside a building or on a roof, meeting safety and access requirements can be challenging, particularly as the design and layout of today’s premises are becoming more complex. This is where step overs and platforms constructed from fittings and tube are starting to lead the way. When a fast and flexible solution is required, modular systems are the natural choice.
