TotalKare cable-free mobile column lifts improve productivity, efficiency and standards for specialist vehicle conversions company.

Clarks Vehicle Conversions has boosted its efficiency and productivity levels since installing cable-free mobile column hydraulic lifts from TotalKare, the UK’s number one provider of heavy-duty vehicle lifting solutions.

The Doncaster-based specialist in vehicle conversions was founded over 30 years ago when Alan Clark began ply-lining vehicles from a small workshop in the back of a local builder’s merchants. From these beginnings, the company has seen significant growth but remains just as passionate about quality craftsmanship and achieving the highest standards possible for customers.

The continual progression of Clarks saw the company appoint a new Managing Director, Darren Lord, in 2015 and the company’s goal under Darren is to take the business to the next level through investment in technology and in its people. A key part of this plan has seen Clarks invest £30,000 in the new TotalKare lifting equipment for the workshop, helping to improve the way that the conversions specialist expertly transforms thousands of vehicles every year.

Clarks’ conversions include crew carriers, bespoke racking systems, welfare units and much more and up to 40 vehicles can be worked on at any one time in the busy workshop. The company’s decision to invest in the T8DC mobile column lifts – which have a capacity of 7,500kg per column – will help to improve the quality standards, efficiency and time taken on each vehicle.

Previously, vehicles were worked on primarily on the floor but with components being added, such as tow bars and axle weighing systems, it made more sense to lift the vehicles to fit these items. Lifting the vehicles also provides a safer and easier option for the fitters without the need to be working underneath vehicles.

The lifts have been a great success and have allowed Clarks to push continually its already high standards of work by improving production operations. At the same time, the flexibility of the new lifts with their adjustable forks allows work to be carried out on every model of van that comes into the Clarks workshop.

According to Simon Welbourn, Head of Sales at Clarks Vehicle Conversions, TotalKare’s mobile column lifts were the ideal solution to the company’s requirements.

“Due to the bespoke nature of the work we carry out we operate out of bays rather than a production line,” he said. “Using mobile column lifts, especially the cable-free option we opted for, allows us to move the lifts around the bays when they are required rather than having to move vehicles to a fixed position lift.”
