With strong growth in ecommerce driving demand for strategically located distribution depots, a leading UK and International parcel delivery company opened a new Depot in North London to cater for the growing demand on its services.

A critical factor in awarding the contract to supply the conveyor system was that it had to be manufactured and installed in just 8 weeks from the order placement to meet the start of the seasonal increase in business.

With many years experience in this sector, UK manufacturer Astec Conveyors were chosen to supply a cost effective system that could be manufactured, delivered and installed within the time frame.

Although Astec are geared to design and provide handling solutions, on this occasion, the conveyors were manufactured to the customer’s own specific design requirements.

Astec Conveyors are acknowledged as a leading supplier of sortation systems specifically designed and engineered for the parcel/distribution industry, providing bespoke solutions to meet individual company needs. Systems can handle parcels of various sizes with an option of manual or automated sortation to include Astec’s new patented high speed, two stage switch unit, which offers a significant increase in throughput of up to 4,000 units per hour. This is capable of handling from an A4 Jiffy bag up to a 1,500mm long x 800mm wide 800mm high with a linear loading of up to 50 kg/metre.

The new bespoke sortation carousel comprised of over 100 metres of wide belt conveyors with lift up access gates and delivery chutes on both sides.

Astec Conveyors Sales Manager Paul Fox reported, “The time sensitive project was most challenging, but we can confirm that the system was successfully installed on time and has been operating reliably and efficiently to the customers satisfaction.”
