Last month, Britain went a whole day without coal-fired power for the first time since use of the fossil fuel began. This follows years of steady decline; in 2016 it accounted for just 9% of electricity generation. The plan is to completely phase this fuel out to help meet climate change commitments.

In its place, as well as a rise of renewable energy, we are seeing a move towards nuclear power. In 2025, the same year we are due to stop using coal completely, the first nuclear power plant in more than two decades – Hinkley Point C – is set to be complete.

This new plant alone will power up to 6 million homes, delivering 7% of the UK’s electricity. But how much do you really know about nuclear power? This infographic, created by recruiters NES Global Talent, takes you inside one…
