Welcome to the May 1st Warehouse & Logistics News. With e-commerce growing rapidly and consumer demand at record levels, parcel carriers need to upgrade their delivery methods to manage increasing expectations. As featured on our cover, Hörmann’s latest loading bay solution is its new cushioned BBS dock shelter for smaller transport and delivery vehicles, providing safe, secure loading at large warehouses. Foam-filled cushions line the shelter edge, protecting warehouse stock from the elements and providing a complete seal between vehicle and warehouse. Additional seals can also be installed to help avoid heat loss.

In today’s business climate the pressure is constantly on warehouses to keep their cool. We’re here to help you do that with features on Warehouse Flooring, Doors & Curtains and Lifting Gear.

Warehouse floors need to perform all year round: skimping on maintenance can have costly repercussions. In our Warehouse Flooring feature RCR Flooring Products reveal how Kawasaki Precision Machinery trialled RCR’s Permaban Signature AR flooring joint repair system at their Plymouth factory in 2015, then came back for more when a high traffic aisle needed a permanent fix. Also in this feature, EGGER UK’s new OSB HDX loadbearing panels are a game changer in the structural flooring market, durable enough for industrial, commercial, warehouse and mezzanine applications yet stylish enough for use in prestige sports and leisure venues.

In our Lifting Gear feature, Ian Tongue, Briggs Equipment’s national accounts and business development director, reports a huge growth outside their core speciality of forklifts, from small access platforms to huge overhead cranes, with customers preferring a single supplier to maintain a wide range of equipment. In Doors & Curtains, door efficiency and odour prevention are key issues for Agrivert, who turn food waste into green energy. They got planning permission for their plants at Bridgend and Colney Heath because they and industrial door supplier sara LBS guaranteed neither plant would emit unpleasant odours, because of the swift opening and closing door system.

In other news, Synergy Logistics have been placed on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Warehouse Management Systems for their Snapfulfil solution. This year is a historic year for Synergy, who have expanded into a new global HQ in Derby, are opening a new US HQ and will launch an updated Snapfulfil application shortly.

And finally, Hoppecke Industrial Batteries, who regularly feature in Warehouse & Logistics News, were recently rewarded for their commitment to excellence with a long-term service agreement from Bombardier Transportation’s rail division. As also reported in this issue Hoppecke is sponsoring the Young Employee of the Year Award at this year’s UKWA Awards ceremony. Put the Dorchester, Wednesday 5th July in your diary now.
