Toyota Material Handling UK have been chosen as a partner to supply a range of materials handling equipment to the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, helping them to work more efficiently and reduce costs.

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) is a public sector organisation who provide a range of high quality administrative functions and services to Local Health Boards and Trusts in Wales, and help to deliver significant savings and benefits to the NHS. Following an intense tender process, Toyota Material Handling UK were chosen as the material handling partner for three of NWSSP national stores in Denbigh in North Wales, Bridgend and Cwmbran in South Wales. These centres are responsible for distributing supplies to all hospitals and health premises across NHS Wales.

Mike Burns, Regional Supply Chain Manager for NWSSP says “When we started the tender process we wanted a supplier who would understand our needs and specify a fleet of forklift and warehouse trucks that would not only promote safe working on site, but also help us to work more efficiently and save money”.

Following a full survey of the sites, Toyota specified a number of trucks including Traigo48 3 wheel electric-powered forklifts, BT Reflex reach trucks, BT Levio pedestrian powered pallet trucks and BT Pro Lifter hand pallet trucks.

Steve Jones, Key Account Manager from Toyota says “NWSSP have been customers of Toyota for over 8 years and so we had experience of supporting them through the supply of equipment and after-sales service support. When it came to the tender we used that experience, but also carried out full site surveys to make sure the equipment specified was right for the job, and would support their needs for the next five years”.

One of the key changes was the BT Reflex RRE160R, a reach truck that was be used both indoors and outdoors.

Steve Jones adds “There were a number of progressive changes suggested for the new fleet; one key addition was the BT Reflex RRE160R. With high ground clearance and durable superelastic wheels, we knew this truck would help NWSSP by providing them with the flexibility to use it in both indoor and outdoor environments”.

Mike Burns adds “By making some simple changes to the fleet we have been able to make significant cost savings without compromising the quality of the trucks we use. We have the flexibility within our fleet to continue working productively and safely, which is very important to us”.
