Strapping specialist Mosca has launched the first side seal strapping machine incorporating its unique ultrasonic technology.

The new Mosca Evolution SoniXs MS-6 features Mosca’s patented SoniXs sealing unit which is positioned on the side of the machine for easier strapping of heavy products or items transported close to the ground, such as furniture or household appliances.

SoniXs technology features highly efficient sealing units that are instantly available because they do not require any pre-heating. Energy consumption is minimal as mechanical vibrations are only produced during the time of welding. The seam achieves a strength of up to 85 per cent of the tensile strength of the strap and is therefore absolutely stable.

The MS-6 range is available in both Base and Pro versions. Upstream and downstream feeding mechanisms make the machines fully automatic and able to be easily integrated into existing production lines, with a pivoting control panel that allows operating sides to be changed according to the line setup.

The machines can process machine-compatible PP, PET and PLA strap with a width of 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12mm. Options include a frame with flaps that can be sizeadjusted to customer requirements, offering maximum variability with strap widths of 9, 10 or 12mm. The machines can also be specified with a fully-automated double strap dispenser, which picks up the strap on a second coil as soon as the first is nearly empty, to enable coils to be changed without halting production.

In addition, the Pro version is fully networkcompatible, providing remote maintenance and diagnostics and bringing side-seal strapping machines into the Industry 4.0 era. This allows diagnoses to be carried out via remote online maintenance, while machine status can also be displayed in just a few clicks using a remote monitoring interface. Software updates can be accessed via a network connection in the same way.

Further flexibility is offered by the versatile strapping editor which enables a wide variety of settings for individual packages to be saved and stored for easy call-up by operators.

The Mosca Evolution series features a range of models with modular construction and standardised components for faster assembly and easy dismantling without tools for scheduled maintenance. At the heart of the series is the Standard-6 sealing unit that can be equipped with either heat-welding or SoniXs technology to seal the straps, using the same mechanical system.

The new Mosca Evolution SoniXs MS-6, along with the company’s full range of machines and strapping materials, are available from its UK subsidiary Mosca Direct of Cotgrave, Nottingham.
