Logic and logistics of Yale® brand: solutions for large numbers

Bondoufle, the central logistics platform of PatisFrance – Puratos, supplies the warehouses of the company located in Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Charme, and prepares orders for the northwest region of the country and for the Paris area, where it supplies pâtissiers, chocolatiers, bakers, but also large retailers and the foreign market.

Raw materials arrive in Bondoufle by truck and are sorted on pallets, then cleared on exhaust docks and placed in the warehouse according to the shipping order; later, the goods are stored before the final delivery.

The fleet available to PatisFrance – Puratos is varied in order to respond quickly and effectively in highly dynamic logistics applications. The fleet comprises three stackers destined for unloading goods from trucks (an operation that takes place in the morning from 5 am to 11.30 am); two reach trucks for picking operations and reception of goods; four reach trucks dedicated to the preparation of goods for the export market, for industry and the GDO (mainly department stores and hypermarkets); 11 order pickers for use by the of pastry chefs and bakers for artisans orders, (working on 7- hour shifts and performing about 800 picking operations per day); two MP16 pallet trucks for goods destined to the industrial sector, and electric ERP 20VF counterbalance truck to support the most demanding of operations.

The movement of goods takes place in a 10,000 square metre warehouse where 8,000 permanent pallets are stored with 1,200 daily picks. PatisFrance – Puratos handles about 350 incoming and outgoing pallets each day, with heights of up to 8.50 metres, including a lowtemperature warehouse of 800 square metres.

Amongst the demands in the logistics warehouse, PatisFrance – Puratos focuses on some fundamental points, for example ergonomics, comfort of the truck and manoeuvring room in the restricted space in the various picking operations between racks (sometimes only 80 cm between a picking area and the other rack), the need for a process planner that bear loads from 7 to 9 tons per day, a retractable carriage which is performing 8 hours of work at low temperatures. And there’s more: PatisFrance also needs a single team that performs these operations in one day, and that this working schedule can be sustained throughout the year without interruption, with peaks of work in August, at the end of December and between March/April when demand increases in the sector due to seasonal holidays.

Availability, productivity, ergonomics

Availability of the carriage and operation times are of fundamental importance for PatisFrance – Puratos, and are crucial elements in the overall management of the company programme.

The Yale® product range has proven highly reliable and responsive in improving productivity by saving time.

By integrating tools such as laser position on the MR reach truck, the driver can be guided by laser light to optimise the layout of the loads on the shelves, while the slow-moving truck allows the operator to move carefully to the side of the shelves for effective management of closepicking operations. The vertical order pickers also reach a height of 120cm, a feature appreciated by truck operators because this height allows them to optimise pallet stations for low or high turnover items.
