Redhead International, one of the UK’s leading logistics companies, has significantly increased the size and scope of its European network, following a merger with German logistics giant DB Schenker.

Earlier this year, Bradfordbased Redhead was the subject of a reverse integration with the road logistics operation of Schenker AG. While the Schenker group acquired a 75 per cent of share of Redhead International, the highly experienced management team at Redhead is heading up the new partnership in the UK.

Redhead managing director Tony Suggitt said the merger offered a ‘best of both worlds’ situation for customers, combining Redhead’s renowned reliability and customer service with the extended scope of a heavyweight, such as the Schenker AG group.

“Our core strengths remain unchanged,” said Mr Suggitt. “They lie in our ability to tailor services to suit our clients’ requirements; this continues, along with our unchallenged reputation for reliable and efficient distribution throughout Europe.”

Redhead is now able to tap into the resources and facilities of a company the size of the Schenker Group to bolster its reach across the European pallet network, delivering to 720 locations across the continent, with access to 21,000 staff and a fleet of 43,000 vehicles.

Using the latest in logistics technology ensures that thousands of shipments the company delivers each month reach their destination securely. Internet delivery tracking and tracing, as well as the latest in warehouse security, such as pick and pack and stock control are all part of the quality Redhead service.

Unrivalled customer service and the ability to offer tailored solutions have always been at the heart of Redhead’s success – factors that will continue into the new era of the partnership with DB Schenker. The flexibility of accommodating either part or full load provides a cost-effective option when only a small amount of goods need to be delivered; the System Freight service can accommodate packages of all shapes and sizes, weighing from as little as 32kg right up to 2,500kg.

This reliability and adaptability in palletised distribution is vital for customers who for example rely on the availability of multiple drops and the option to quickly scale up or down to meet their needs and deadlines. Those in the automotive and electronics industries, for example, count on a dependable service where delivery within a strict timeframe is vital.

Redhead has also long been one of the leading operators between the UK and Ireland. What started with a modest office in Carrickfergus has grown to bustling depots in Belfast and Dublin, offering next day delivery capacity in many areas.

“It’s all part of our dedication to maintaining cross-water services,” said Mr Suggitt. “From the early days, our core business has involved freight transportation across the Irish Sea. We are justifiably proud of our 35 years’ experience in the Irish market and the fact that we operate regular daily services between the UK and Ireland.”

In the UK, the infrastructure of strategically placed depots ensures the length and breadth of the country is covered. The partnership between Redhead International and the Schenker group brings the opportunity to continue doing what it does best – providing reliable, affordable and flexible solutions – while tapping into the German giant’s extensive resources and established routes.

Mr Suggitt said the merger was an exciting time for the company: “Since becoming part of the DB Schenker network, our capability in Europe has soared. This is a win-win situation for our customers, who want unrivalled access to a pallet network across Europe while enjoying our unparalleled service and attention to detail.”
